More thoughts on new models to produce

Post by pickelhaube » Sun Jul 05, 2009 7:50 am

I am busy with my customs. Pouring , pouring and pouring.

I am trying to get a part time guy but am having no luck.

So I am doing EVERYTHING. That is why things seem to be getting out slow.

I do like building customs. That is the only part I like MAKING THE MASTERS OR ONE OF'S.

The mould making and pouring of resin I don't really like. Painting is something esle I do not like to do. As a kid every single model I built was a built model with decals on it. UNPAINTED.

I can paint but just don't like to do it.

Armor :

Some may disagree with this but I think (if given time) I could build almost every piece of armor that is out there. All the stuff I build I am thinking of reproducing the cheapest that I can make it. Sometimes a project is not worth making but I make it anyway. This could change. To spend a week on something then make molds and all and the payoff ? I lose money. :?

So I have been thinking that I would truly like to make one of's. But the one of's would be twice if not three times the price of production pieces. Cutting out the average collector. So Maybe I may not go that way.

Were am I going with this ? I am not sure.

Aircraft:

Aircraft is more demanding. The lines need to be right panel lines need to be were they belong. Then you have the canopies to deal with.

Collectors on a whole pay more money for aicraft. It has allways been like this. I will eventually get back on aircraft. There are a few unfinished projects I have started that I need to get out and when done they will not be $750. The thing is some collectors are paying these prices and happy to do it.

I am working deals to get painters to fiinsh some of my aircraft projects.

The proposed price is about $350-$450 . That is still a lot of money but half the price of $750 !!!

So fear not . I will be back on aircraft after about 6 "must do " armor projects then I will switch and be back on aircraft.

Unless somebody is willing to pay for that A-10 or Hind Helo.

i like your attitude on armour. Keep it coming. Maybe consider more exotic types as well like matildas, m-13/40's, char b's, kv-1's etc

I still think you should do a t-34. You can make both a /76 and /85 turret and have two models to sell for a little more than the work of one.

The Trumpeter 1/16 is too big and does not fit in with a 1/18 tank collection...it looks dumb. So the only option is to switch all tanks to 1/16 or wait and wait for a 1/18 T-34.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

Build me a CT-114 Tutor, I'll buy two, one for me and one for my grandfather!

We've looked for so long for a Snowbird model that is bigger than 1/18 scale. They have a multiple view drawing on their website I'm sure you could use to help you along

Good work Pickelhaube, how are those WWI aircraft doing?

I have not heard of the Ct-114 Tutor.

This is what I came up with after googleing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ct114 ... ines_1.jpg

I have the WW1 birds hanging in the shop.

I already punched a hole in the fuse of the SPAD.

I was scratching my back with a 36 brass tube and caught it on a up swing   .

I will concider making any project depending on the time I think it will take to build it. Most projects will take a week or more to build. So a week rate will apply.

How much does the avereage person make in a week ? Believe me modelers make less.

Granite work pays way better than model work. But the problem is ddown here the granite industry is not all that great.

I feel I could make a A-10. This would take about 2-3 weeks. I could build a T-34. This would take a week and a half.

This does take time to do. The Model Master Builders who build their masters for production pieces charge tens of thousands of dollars for their trouble.

I am not in that level.

Hundreds is were I am at. :D

Pickel

Ah, the Spad was just shot at by that fokker zooming around in there. I'm glad you enjoyed them so much :)

You got it, that's a Tutor. I built an R/C one and still have it, though it has not flown in ages. I don't even have the plans anymore. One of these days I will have to get it out of storage and put it together and take a photo of it.

Here is a page about the Tutor. I know it will never get made in 1/18 major retailer, I like the plane though.

I follow the Snowbirds airshow season as much as possible. I'm fortunate to have seen them 4 times this year.

Well Pickel and Corey,
I might be interested in a Snowbirds Tutor myself.

I would assume that this would lessen the cost?

I will see them at Abbotsford in a month.

How about making the parts needed to produce the F-82? I would buy 2 Mustangs for a conversion like that!

Only need 2 wing sections. :P

There is a lot more to the F-82 than a center wing section.
1. Longer fusage
2. Different prop
3. Different front fusesalage
4. Taller bigger rudder
5. Different located landing gear
6. Flush over rear stab.
7. Conecting rear stab
8. Different exaust
9. Larger wing cord without leading edge bump
10. Different canopy location.

I have thought about this custom . It will be a big job I was planning on doing a step by step some day.
