XD YARD SALE

Post by Razor17019 » Fri May 06, 2005 10:49 pm

I just wanted to know if anyone has ran into XD items at a Yard Sale or sold XD items at a Yard Sale.

I am attempting the latter tomorrow.

Got lots of fountain sets that gotta go....

So I will report back on what happens.

Let me know if you have had a similar experience.

I picked up a tiger at a yard sale that had a broken track, other than that have never seen anything else. (that was a couple of years ago)

It's been my experience with yardsales that shoppers want bargains, so with that in mind, I wouldn't expect to make a killing on the XD stuff but I think you should be able to sell them.

Yes, I am soooo tainted by Ebay for XD stuff.
I set out 4 XD Fountain sets on Saturday.
Not a bite, not even a nibble!

You are right about yard sale mentality- You have 3 dollars on an item and the person asks if they can have it for 2 or 1!

Oh well, didn't cost me anything but time and made a big 8 bucks for my effort. My wife did a bit better with more traditional yard sale items- baby clothes, household items, etc. - over 300 bucks...

I will stick to the board and Ebay for my XD needs.

You would have done better at on of the huge regional flea markets where you pay about $15 for a spot. My son and his friends spend a weekend camping at Englishtown flea market twice a year. They sell ANYTHING to amazing crowds. My garage gets cleaned out. My son sold half a trike for $300 that he had found in a neighbors trash the day before.

I gave him a few of my 21c CC's that I had bought super cheap at TRU. They went for $40 apiece and had people asking all day long. A few people even knew who 21c was.

A yard sale is very iffy, my wife does one once a year and some years people look for junk and pass buy good stuff, if you put out junk they look for antiques. The "early birds" kill me, looking for a single thing, watches, toys, tools, anything military, whatever. One year I sold six hundred bucks worth of bayonets before 8AM. The guy was honest and didn't try to cheat me on the crap or rare Axis bayonets I had picked up years before. This year I plan on putting out a few of my 1/18 "extras" and see if they sell. I keep buying planning to make up the big mother of all dioramas, but that never seems to happen.

At my wife's sale I always put out a few big items, a 1/1 M-37 Army truck with flags and banners all over it, 1/6 stuff (WSC and Stuart) and they always drag in dad's for the Army truck and kids and their mothers for the toys. I set prices very high, I don't want to sell, we just use them as bait. Did sell a Stuart last year at an outrageous price, went right out and bought one on eBay for a third of my price, brand new.

People will buy anything, if the timing is right.
