Need advice on acquiring 1/18 M1 Carbine and SVD Dragunov

Post by Able Archer » Mon Jun 29, 2009 7:38 am

Hi everyone, as usual I am seeking your expert opinions on 1/18 firearms matters.
This time it relates to the M1 Carbine and SVD Dragunov.

So I was just wondering two things.

First which M1 Carbine is better?

The earlier one that comes with Corporal Tommy Brit Lamb:

Or the one that comes with D-Day2nd Ranger Scout Pvt. Frank "Wheeler" Hodges:

I plan to convert this M1 into an M2 as a custom project and will probably acquire 2-4. So any comparison pics would be much appreciated!

On a similar note I was also wondering what the black and brown painted SVD Dragunov lookalike that comes with the Cobra Trooper (silver) as part of the 25th Anniversary GI Joes 2007 wave 2 release is like.
I am very interested in getting 2-4
It can be found here:

I know Marauder Inc makes an SVD Dragunov that appears to be highly rated but I was just wondering what your thoughts were on the GI Joe one. It looks like its got a lot of potential as another addition to my 1/18 Cold War armory.

Thanks again everyone. I really appreciate the help you guys give me on this board!

Some of the WWII US FOV figures came with M1 carbine.

The FOV M1 Carbine is smaller the the 21stC version.

The Hasbro SVD is entirely too small.

27 years and they still can't properly scale weapons.

Not to mention that the SVD is inaccurate.

The Cobra one is not right.

Both 21st C Carbines are the same mold. Only difference is the paint. Marauder has SVD, if you are needing some. They are much better than Hasbro's.

I think that they might even be a flash light bulb, cause they don't kill anyone.

i think the m1 that comes with the 21stXD pacific USMC is the best. the one that comes with the normandy figure looks like the one with the FOV figures and is too small. i actually loved the paratrooper one that came with the Market Garden XD figures....just wish you could unfold the stock, cause that would be cool

edit: para style m1 carbine from dragon 1:18
