At least it did not end up like the pre Glacier Girl all crushed under tons of ice.
The same thing kind of happend to my first Spinach Me-109 E.
It was flying a predawn recon ( on the top of my comp.).
All was well when the RAF swooped in out of the clouds ( Mrs . Spike wanting to use the comp )
It was bounced from all sides ( she moved the moniture )
It went into a death spiral ( it fell off )
Luckly it made a dead stick landing with minimul damage. ( broken prop broken antenna )
It is now a hangar queen ( get it out of here or something else will happen to it )

Sorry to hear that.
If you repair crew is unable to complete it's mission, you may want to sell the parts on Evilbay?
With the money you could get a couple planes for your son...

scary all my planes are on missions in my son's room - so far my only damage are dropped drop tanks getting stepped on snapping the small tabs - knock on wood

The all of the sudden a 1/18 xd DAK fig with a wallmart bag parachute hit the fan, flew and broke the first loop of fishing line.
Helplessly dangling from above starring down with minimal damage it swung down from above and hit the wall.
With a load made in china thump it bent the prop.
But not to bad and it is as good as knew.
but for my little brother.....

Last week I dropped my AT 262 while hanging and the wing partially popped out. I had glued in the screwport covers and could not get the damn things out so I had to pop the tabs in with a little elbow grease. She will never be 100% but hey, most of my models show some wear and tear from moving them in and out of boxes and from room to room.

All planes are gonna show some hangar rash over time I think..

I think that's pretty close to how Helmut Wick actually went out

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but I couldn't help but chuckle a little bit as to the story you told. I, too; have had many scenarios like that.
