Possibly using the Sd.Kfz. 251 after major de-construction ? I think it might be possible, whats your guys opinion?

I have been thinking of doing this custom. It is not like I have anything on my plate already.

Another forrm member did one with Rummel's GRIEF on the side. He used the 251's wheels which is incorrect. The ideler and main drive are correct off of the 251 but the wheels are way different. That is what held me back. I did not feel like making new wheels. If the wheels were right it would be a realativley easy conversion.

As well as looking totaly cool. I also have a real Sdkfz 250 wheel . That is another reason for me to want to have one

I think that for what its' worth I might try a conversion and deal some artistic mojo on the wheels to pull off a somewhat decent 250. Thanks for your feedback Pickelhaube.

Besides the wheel problem with turning the 21C Sdkfz 251 into a 250, you have the fact that the 251 hood is half again longer than the 250 and if you shorten the 251 interior to be correct for the smaller 250, you will have a strange looking beast. Grognard did a super job but his was all scratch built.

Pickle:

All you need are seven more wheels and you're on the way to your very own half track.

The big time Brit 1/6 guy, Peter Shaw, built a 1/1 Sdkfz 250 out of wood, so why not you? He has given us pics of the 1/1 "250" sitting next to his amazing German E boat he made in 1/6. Great stuff there. Image

The builder has since finished the full boat but he hasn't furnished pics of the wood full size "250".

Pickel, what are you going to do with the Sd Kfz 250 wheel? Clean it up and paint it or leave as is? Just wondering.
Cool find! Very 8)

Actualy I was just going to leave it as . The years have not been kind to it. The rust is clean through it in places and any kind of restoration may bring more harm to it than good.

Right now it is in the shop kinda as a door stop.

BTW,

I made a deposit on a Mk-IV track link it should be in country in a couple of weeks. The seller has diggers in Europe who just found a casche of track links. He said that last year they came across some Tiger II track links and he sold them for $1,000 a pop. I sure in glad I did not know about them when they were available. I would probably have been in trouble with Mama Spike.

It sure would be nice to have a Sdkfz 250. I am sure they would sell like hot cakes. Hint hint JSI

Well that sounds like the right thing to do Matthew. Some times a restored item has more bondo in it then metal.
I was using my German 88 flak round as a door stop for a while.......but I thought it should have a more prominent spot in the collection, so now it does.

KT track links at $1000 each? What are the Panzer IV's going for?

I think we should contact JSI about this Sd Kfz 250 They'll sell ........big time!
