Does the world need a 1/18 scl M-42 Duster or Kubelblitz ?

Post by pickelhaube » Mon May 04, 2009 9:26 pm

I am not sure if this has come up in the past but it has come to my attention that if I can make a new anti aicraft turret for the M-41 it is a whole other tank.

The M-41 was used mainly by the South Vietnamese so it is not that popular of a tank to some collectors. But the Duster was certantly used by the U S in that conflict.

It looks like some upper deck work may have to be done as well. Unless a new turret will just drop in and that is that

The world sure can use a M-42 Duster. I'm not sure I would buy a M-41 with simply a new turret dropped in. I think some more changes in the upper body would be in order and I'm not sure other guys would pay for that. I would.......

Personally, I would take anything new in 1/18.
"I can stop collecting 1:18 scale anytime, really I can. OOoh, the new Stuka re-paint! I don't have that one.

The duster is pretty sweet. They use to have one sitting out side of the local Armory. I don't know If I'd need one for my collection, but I'd love to see the end results.

Have you considered
making an M-60A1 Conversion kit for the Pattton?

I looks like it'd be pretty easy for someone with your skill set.

I like the M-60A1 conversion ideal Fritzkrieg has.
Were the Dusters used in Vietnam?

M-42 Dusters were used in VN. I have pics of two used at a USO show (one sitting on either side of the stage) when the VC was active in the area. Those barrels pointing towards the jungle sure kept them quiet (the VC that is).

Anything new or different in 1/18 scale armor is a welcomed idea. MD has patton tanks for $20. Could stock up and convert some of them.

I've wanted an M-42 for years. Even have an extra M-41 sitting in the box, just waiting to be converted. What kind of $ are we talking?

With no research and developement I am thinking $65- $95 for the turret guns and minimul deck modification.

I have also been looking at the Kubelblitz. It does not look that hard to do.

But the Mk-IV are getting thin. At least with the Kubel it would be an easy turret swap .

There were 3 of them made. So it was not a paper panzer. So you could paint it a stock 21st color and just swap the turret back and forth for when you are in the mood.

Here is the Kubelblitz in 1/35 scale

the duster would need virtually a whole new upper hull too. Nice vehicle to have but more than just a turret.

Kubelblitz - I had a vision of a kubelwagen with a small turret on top of it.

The Kubelblitz WAS a paper panzer. No record of them in any combat service. The same can be said about the Panther F. No production models were ever completed, just prototypes.

Still cool looking. Modelino is making these for the 1/16th crowd. I'd rather have a Duster. :o

I'd support that for the M-42, even if the upper deck was not quite up to specs.

There is a question if they saw service or not. There was 3 of them made.

So they would not be considered paper panzers like the Panther flak and others.

I'm in for the M-42 Duster, even if an upper mod is needed... :D

  The "Panther flak" or Coelian as it's correct name had prototypes built, whether they actually worked or were wooden mock ups still they were made but never saw production either so they are still deemed "paper panzers".
