What makes this poll so hard is that there are almost too many great choices, both in aircraft type and then they many paint schemes wiithin each type.
Might I also add that the AH-1W Supercobra was also a very nice piece. It combinied an excellent level of detail and functionality without loosing the accuracy and structural integrity of the model

While it may not have all intricate details and moving features that later models had, I would have to second PH's vote on the Haleakala II P-38. The paint scheme was excellent, weathering was great, and the plane has a presence that grabs attention when someone walks into the room, more than any other 21st plane in my collection (and that does include the Me-262 nightfighter and a couple Avengers).

The f-4 and MiG-21 and the B-25 would have been their masterpieces.
But the last ones are the Avenger F-86, MiG-15 and the me-262a and b
The night fighter is the best one!
The Avenger would have been but when you fold the wings there is a bit of unfinished business in that area. Takes away form the overall look of it.

Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!

The P-38,Haleakala in particular. All the versions are BIG,and impressive, with good detailing. They certainly grab your attention.and have decent detailing.
More of a favourite because of the plane, rather than the quality of the model.Who else does a 1:18 P-38!
For just quality,I would have to go with the Avengers,Bunker Hill version being the most eye pleasing.
On a related note,I will start a new thread in regards to BBI "masterpiece".
Also,favourite 1:18 modelin your collection.

Well, some of you seem to have a top pick without hesitation. Others seem to have a tough time choosing - I'm with that group.
Currently I feel it's the S1 F-104. What a great piece! But ask me two months from now and I may have a different pick. Man, such a shame that we can't look forward to more (sometimes very surprising!) releases from 21C.

21c's Masterpiece Aircraft?
Hands down it has to be the Avenger! For some reason I never really took to the P-38. I had the Samantha Payton and the Hallieakala II...sold both of em. I really do like my Spinach S II Me 109, first XD 1:18 I ever got, but the Avenger for it's massive size 3' x 27" and detail is still tops! JD

I agree. I think my dislike of the P-38 came from several errors on the model. The curved windshield is number one. The others include the missing dash and the goofy looking nose gear (which is understandable, considering the CG). The windshield wreaks it for me, though (as well as on the Hellcat).jdowd1 wrote:Hands down it has to be the Avenger! For some reason I never really took to the P-38. I'm going to have to say the ol' TBF too.
Now which scheme I haven't decided between the Atlantic and the Bunker Hill. Both are nice.
The plane is just so awesome in size, the work that went into it, plus it's a bomber type aircraft.
The more we get of those the better.
The ME-262 Nightfighter is a close second.

i think one of their best models is the stuka. Accurate in outline, well detailed and with minimal qc issues during its lifespan. The weathering on the s1 series left much to be desired but otherwise there were a variety of nice schemes offered.
Overall definitely one of their best efforts.

i never met an airplane i didn't like...

I'm going out on a limb with this one:
The S1 P-51D
This was the first true 1:18 scale, prebuilt WWII plane ever to hit the mass market. Iti is the ancestor of everything that has come since. Yes, it was lacking much in the way of accuracy and now may be considered the worst of all the 1:18 planes, but I recall being so stoked to see that big P-51 on the shelf at TRU back in 2000. Sort of the stuff of dreams
