Anyone know where i can get my hands on one of these 1/18, non mint. I got started late in this game and Vietnam is my favorite era. I see them on ebay but very rare and well very costly. Thanks.

They were all over five years ago, but now ebay is your best bet. The online retailer www.aviatornut.com has the "Air America" version of the Huey, but it is pricey.

Ya it is gone, I tried already

Most difficult of all to find, in any version. I've checked with every e-talier I can find with no luck. Best bet is hoping someone posts to e-bay at a resaonable buy-it-now.

You can *USUALLY* find them on eBay for $90 to $100 if you watch the auctions carefully.

Some do spike upwards in price, but you just have to be persistent.

eBay is pretty much your only bet.

Yeah, eBay and patience is pretty much the way.

We are talking about possibly the most famous combat helicopter of all time.

A trashed Hog (missing a door, the M5 off the nose, the stinger and at least one of the rocket pods) went for 68 last week.

I have some loose Huey rocket pods, if anyone needs them. :D

Keep the faith. I was trying for over a year and kept losing ebay auctions going up to $130 several times and still getting beat out.
About 3 months ago I finally won one and it only ended up being about $90 with shipping and all - $78 for the helo. Look for one that ends during the week at a weird time. I got the hoghead II MIB never opened for that price.

I had traded for one that was banged up a little but I fixed up the broken parts and it is most definetely a great piece to own. My version was the hoghead II but I scrapped the gun of the nose and traded it to a board member here and I still have the rocket pods available as well.

Now I search for a good deal on another because I would eventually like to chop them up to make a "D" with door gunner seats, but that will be way down the road as projects are backed up now. Hopefully if it could be made I would love to get PH to cast a piece of fuselage where you could upgrade to a "D" without sacrificing two birds.

That would be awesome!
PH - could you design a fuselage piece that we could adapt to our current Huey's?

i just used sewing thread on my M60, tied it up in the whole where the light goes above the cabin. My light came out and it allowed me to put it there before putting it back in

That Night Hawk rig is definitely Vietnam, nothing modern about that.

I'm pretty sure the problem is you have to have a D body to do any of the hard mounts.

A sagami mount would be awesome, but there isn't any room as the Hueys are.

Yes I could but alas I do not have a Heuy myself . I passed on them even when they were $15 at Walmart.

I am not really sure what you guys want. A fuselage extention or doors ?

Now , if anybody wants to send me A Huey or the parts affected. I could make the convertion so it addapts to the aircraft. NO HARM WILL COME TO YOUR MODEL.

LET ME KNOW.

PH,
What we are looking for is a way to extend the fusalage to create a large enough space to add the door mounted M60.

Are those pics posted the idea ?

I think what it is gonna take is to have a set of blue prints or model plans from a smaller scale to figure out just where to make the cut in the huey to add the extension piece.

The added piece would ideally be placed right behind the stock seat in the 21st huey. This piece would also included the seat for the doorgunner on both sides as well as the mounts. Also the way it would impact the engine cowling on top and the rotor will be issues as well. The door would probably be the easiest thing to do. I feel it would be a major undertaking but well worth the effort.

For the scale gurus out there to make this "D" model I haven't put it to paper but what will it take. I am thinking maybe 2.5 inches added should do the trick.

PH I most definetly give up my bird in the name of getting this project flying, if you think it can be done.

Here is a pic of the M23/ M60E Door mounted MG system for the Huey.

Image
The M23 armament subsystem consists of a safety shoulder harness and a left and right side mount marked "LEFT" or "RIGHT" respectively. Each is bolted to the outside of the UH-1 series helicopter by the pintle mount. Attached to the pintle mount is the M60D machine gun with a canvas ejection control bag to collect ejected links and cartridge cases. The pintle mount is made up of a pintle post assembly and a 550 round capacity ammunition box with ammunition feed chute and adapter.

But anyone know if this is the type of mount they would have used in Vietnam Era?
