1:18 V-2

Has anyone ever discussed the idea of making a 1:18 V-2? I just did a quick check and calculation, and determined that it would be 30.6 inches tall standing on its fins.

A simple model of the rocket's external shape could be done relatively cheaply, although care would have to be taken to get the compound curves of the main body right. Such a project would be well within the capabilities of some of the excellent modelers whose work I've seen on this forum.

I can imagine a more ambitious rendition of the V-2 that would have opening panels that would allow you to see the tankage, plumbing and engine. An outfit like Admiral or BBi might do the project "whole hog" -- giving us a mobile launch configuration, with carrier trailer, launch pad, etc.

Given the fundamental historical importance of this weapon, I would think it would be a natural subject.

I have always wanted to do one and it has been dicussed here in the past. It would be a fantastic project. But crazy pricy for retail.

i have a figarti V-2 and its great! the 1/18 scale would be crazy big but i have space in my living room. if i left my wife

Why so pricey? I don't have a clue about the economics of these little buggers, but the molding doesn't seem more complex than many things on the market, and the amount of plastic and painting wouldn't be more than many, as well, since the shapes are relatively simple.

There would be a lot of interesting repaints, as well, from the German development program through the operational military versions through the post-war versions played with by both the US and the Soviets ...

I think you are a little short on the 30.6 inches . I am not sure but it is about this . But it is about 3 inches or so in diameter. I would say at least $600 worth of RTV that is about 6 units and the resin would probably be about 2 that is about $80 worth of resin per rocket. And that is if you pour it hollow.Also about 2 weeks to get the master made. You will have to make the flash base. The gantry would be a whole other project.

If somebody would produce if for $100 or I would buy it.

But as a customizer I would guess and say that this would be at least a $300 -$400 project retail. Depending on detail.

if you can find it Estes made a nice model rocket of a V-2. The box says it's 1/19 scale but it's actually closer to 1/16. It's 33 inches long. They usually sell for around $60 or so.

Be careful though. Estes also made a smaller version, so make sure of which one you're buying.

With minumal effert it can be down scaled to 1/18. Hmm... I have always wanted a V-2 rocket.

THIS IS THE WAY TO GO.

the imex kit is a bear to make.....i had one and sold it. The Estes is the better choice, imo, and it's a bit smaller too, so closer to 1/18.

no, it's closer to 1/24 iirc.

There are 1/32 and 1/35 V2 model kits available.

Well here's another case of a project I haven't gotten to finish yet

I got one of the Estes kits off of Evil bay 'bout a year ago and haven't had a chance to work on it yet, it just sits under the dio table at the present time still in the package

But someday hope to get to it, and then it'll look good in that 4 color camo scheme the Huns used on it

... so I know that there are some world-class scratch-builders on this forum, up to and including folks who do the kind of resin casting that has always seemed like total magic to me. Is vacu-forming not a technology available to this echelon of modelers?

I remember when I was a kid, we had a little vacu-form toy that sucked thin sheets of styrene over metal (?) mold pieces. Is something like that available? The outer skin of the rocket could be made in sections that way ...
