An idea for a reviews section

Post by Morian Miner » Mon Apr 18, 2005 12:11 pm

With all the repaints that 21C puts out, and hoping to see more at Walmart if that arrangement works out, does anyone see the benefit of maintaining a sticky post either here or the reference section where the features of the models can be summarized? This could have a brief description of each vehicle (plastic vs. die cast body, no detailed interior/full interior), pros and cons (21C P-51 undersized, don't leave the BBi F18 on its landing gears for a long time, broken panzer barrel, extra accessories included, etc.). I figure some of the newcomers might want to see this, and even people who've been here a while might find it useful (i.e. I know the Walker Bulldog supposedly has an interior, but does the Patton tank that is coming out with Sahara?).

This would take a lot of work to put together, so maybe several people could volunteer to help get it together. I know the general threads for the respective vehicles already do this, but they eventually move down, and you have to sift through store sightings to get all the info.

We could do that... even have a full on database discussion/review site itself with something like that. It's something I think I can workj on when I get more time in a few weeks.

Let us know if you need some help with this. I can see it taking some time.

Once I set up the database system and the site itself, I can make it user based. Delegate 4 or 5 users to be the ones to make a new entry about a new item with the info/release date/description. Then anyone can comment on it. I could then upload a photo. When I get back from Star Wars Celebration 3 next week, I'll start thinking up ideas.

Reviews section

Post by JimBob55 » Mon Apr 18, 2005 6:28 pm

I'd like to help out. While I am attracted to many of the 21C and BBI aircraft, space and budget limit my collecting to a specific genre. Perhaps some of us can specialize in some areas: armor, aircraft, US, German... and so on. Although some folks do seem to collect one of each aircraft.

I pretty much collect the US Navy aircraft and can help with critiques and resources. I have 4 Corsairs and 2 F-18's. I expect to end up with 2 or 3 Avengers. (Although I've been tempted by the FW-190, F-104, and the BBI P-51)

Good idea and I'm willing to give it a try.

i think the best idea would be to create a whole new section for reviews (if possible) and have a thread for each type of vehicle, plane or figure set (eg BBI P-51, 21C Panzer IV, 21c USMC figures etc) in which anyone who wants to can post a review.

That way there can be a sampling of opinions for others to read on each type and no one is burdened with the responsibilty of doing reveiws all the time. Also allows for a variety of approaches to product reviews as one reviewer may stress certain points (eg articulation, playability) that another wouldn't...

I'd be willing to help out as well. I've posted here often enough without doing too much in return, so an opportunity to help would be greatly appreciated!

I can post detailed reviews for nearly all of the 21c 1:18 aircraft and vehicles that have been released thus far, as well as much of the 1:32 stuff.
My collections of BBI, FOV, Corgi, Dragon, etc. are more limited, as would be my descriptions for such items .

Would this database cover all scales and makes that we currently specialized in and which we will eventually discover?

Keep me posted!
