POST M113 APC SIGHTINGS AND DISCUSSION HERE!
Saw the new APC at MW today. Anyone have one yet? They're pretty light, wondering if they're as sturdy as the Tigers and Shermans. Nice looking vehicle.
Holy Cow!! I had no idea these would be out so soon! What colour, how many figures? Pictures if possible please.
(This bodes very well for a release of the Panzer IV sooner rather than later..and maybe the truck too!)

Andrew,
I believe that is a completely current version. Check out this photo:

I'm sure it's easily modded, though........

a nice surprise indeed, Ski! Now we just need some other members, besides you and me, to post about it....lol.
M113's are like rifles and motorcycles to me......they all look the same.
I think there were three different paint schemes shown at the Fall Toy Show, were there not?...and i think one was a Vietnam version.
After my COED Sherman debacle i'm not confident about anything i see/say from now on.

VMF,
WHat area do you live in?
Afurg, I thought I saw three versions. Sand, green, and green camo, but I'll have to go back and look.
Cant wait to get some of these. Ahhhhhhh, the thrill of the hunt!

three indeed:

I think the overall green one would be appropriate (colour-wise) for vietnam? The woodlands for cold war era/today and the sand for OIF?
Ski: I still don't know what the 'grill' on the side is for? It looks like it's for external storage but what is the grill effect in aid of?

Maybe it is for some sort of armor protection of whatever is in it while allowing water to escape from the compartment. I'm sure somebody out there knows.........

Combat Identification Panels: The primary means of ground-to-ground identification for vehicles, CIPs are 24-inch x 30-inch panels painted with chemical agent resistant coating and with low emissive, high reflectivity tape.
Attached to combat vehicles, CIPs appear as cold spots when seen through thermal sights. They are dark patches when viewed through forward looking infrared (FLIR) sensors in white hot mode, and white patches when seen through FLIR black hot mode.
Prices range from $1,200 for a five-panel Abrams tank kit to $489 for a three-panel set for an M113 armored personnel vehicle.
-Quoted from http://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org/ ... fm?Id=1162
These type of panels can be seen on all types of US vehicles in Iraq today. Even bolted to the side of Humvees. So these are very much modern vehicles. Anyone yet know if the panels can be removed? I would love to cast and put them on my desert painted M2 Bradley fighting vehicle.

The "Grill" that I believe you are refering to appears to be nothing more than steel bars welded to the hull of the 113 to hold cargo. If you'll notice the Jerry Can (fuel-probably mogas to power an aux generator) behind the grill. I believe the "grill" like appearance is probably an ad hoc attempt at glacial armour, meant to deflect small arms rounds.
Units try all kinds of bolt on goodies to stow dunnage, and as there is usually no set way of doing things, the more creative the unit members are, the more variants and oddities you will have.
Even in the sandbox, each of us pig gunners had a different way of doing things, each of us setting up our turrets and guns the way we wanted within the limits of time and equipment. Had I been assigned to a hummer for more than just a particular shift, I would have modified the hell out of my "house" provided I had the materials and tools to do so.
I felt particularly bad for lefties, as the up armor hummer is a right handers machine, offering poor visibility to a southpaw.

Wow
1) This is awesome, I thought we'd wait till next year for sure
2) Walmart is good too - plastic armor will be at Walmart
3) I hope they're not asking 40 bucks (lord knows I'll pay it though)
4) The figures look embarassing, almost as bad as the clown who came with the Desert Bradley.
5) The gear looks best on the woodland but the OIF is the best scheme for this version IMO. Definite custom possibilities though, which is nice.
6) We need a SERIOUS review - what opens, how many men fit inside, number of figures, etc....
As you can see, I'm excited. Us armor guys don't get this kind of news everyday.

Ah hell, I blew that one. It is a CIP, although some are not venetian blind type, but rather flat panels looking like cardboard squares painted to match the vehicle with duct tape on the corners.
Hey the glacial armour thing sounded like pretty good b.s. though.
Ok, Ill just leave quietly now and hide in a corner.

Wow, didn't realize the anticipation on these! They were at WM in Joplin, MO 15th & Rangeline store, they had around 15 of them. They come with 2 figs and all the ones they had were tan. The detail looked awesome. I was scouting for the black 109 and these were everywhere, in 3 different ailes. Also saw the new 32x Panzer III Ausf L which was also a great looking tank and the new version of the Sherman (cold steel). Nice surprises!

This is awesome. Not only armor, but a transport at that. $40 is a little steep if that is the price, put it's more tolerable if it comes with two figures. Man, that would be a nice trend - more than one figure with Motorworks vehicles.
You just can't guess what 21C will do next. First, we hear no armor in 2004, then we get the Tiger followed by the APC. THERE'S HOPE FOR THE ZERO AFTER ALL!!!!!!!!

Wow! The M113!! That is indeed a surprise! I sure hope the small retailers get these, or that they hang around in WMs until I have a chance to go home from school and get one! There are no Wal Marts for 10 miles within the vicinity of where I go to school, and its pretty tough to get that far w/o a car! Given the past armor releases, these may stick around for a bit...
Can anyone who has seen one in person describe the features? Photos anyone? Thanks!
