Heng Long 1/16 Russian KV-1
The word over at RCU is that HL will soon be releasing a 1/16th RC Soviet KV-1 heavy tank. This is awesome news for Russian armor fans, and it leaves open the future possibilities for a KV-2, KV-85, or even an IS-2 Stalin.

I agree, and it is very encouraging that HL has decided to come out with some Soviet armor, there all kinds of possibilities for the basic KV chassis, can you imagine for example an SU-152....?? man, that would be freaking awesome...Another must-have tank in 1/16!

HL tanks normally comes with ugly copies of 1/16 Tamiya tank commanders. Although I'm not sure whether this KV tank will have a tank commander. Maybe HL will mold their own.
And considering the Tamiya 1/16 figures looks similar in scale to 1/18th figures, 1/8th figures looks quite nice on any 1/16th tanks.
And as for the British tank....HL went quiet on that one. Even this KV-1 announcement was just announced very recently.
Me thinks the British tank was shelved in favor for the Jagdpanther, the KV, and the Sherman.

All the HL German tanks come with a figure, (or two in the case of the Stug III), and to me they seem to match up well with XD figures. I don't know if the KV will have a figure or not, but I hear that the Tamiya 1/16 Bundeswehr tank commander figure will make a passable Soviet crewman. Dunno what happened to the HL British tank...?? the best that I can recall from reading posts over at RCU, HL has a Sherman and a Jagdtiger slated for the near future, but I have no idea about release dates or anything like that.aferguson wrote:do HL tanks come with figures and how do they compare in size to xd figures? It would be hard to custom up a 1/18 russian tanker figure.
And i thought HL was supposed to be coming out with a 1/16 british tank.....whatever happened to that?

Check the center photo of the post I made earlier. The figure on the left is the 1/16 figure that came with my Matorro KT. As you can see, there is no difference at all between it and the 21st figure. The Tamiya 1/16 figures are a little oversized IMHO. And remember that the HL tanks (at least the older ones) have opening hatches in the turrets, but you have to cut out the opening under the hatch.aferguson wrote:do HL tanks come with figures and how do they compare in size to xd figures? Yeah, we use the 1/18th fig's all the time with the 1/16th tanks.aferguson wrote:do HL tanks come with figures and how do they compare in size to xd figures? It would be hard to custom up a 1/18 russian tanker figure.

that's not what i was asking......i want to know if hen long figures are compatible with 1/18 figures because the hen long figure that comes with the kv will be a russian tank commander figure and there aren't any in 1/18 and i want it to be compatible with xd figures.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

To be honest Andrew, I wouldn't be all that surprised if the KV ends up coming with the standard HL German tank figure, it remains to be seen of course.... and perhaps we will get lucky and they will tool up a copy of some Tamiya Russian figure from one of their many 1/35 kits...we can always hope for that anyway.the hen long figure that comes with the kv will be a russian tank commander figure

this is inter..esting. Not a fan of the KV, but thank god it's not another Tiger or Panther..the market has too many of those over-rated POS(The Real things were over-rated IMO)
I'm still on the fence on the StuG III R/C I'd like it but I need to justify adding to one the collection(my only 1/18ish thing is the V-1), and I would love to see a 38(t) chassis(Jagdpanzer 38(t), Marders, Flakpz 38(t))

I didn't mean to say the Soviets NEVER used camouflage paint on their armor... they did, however as you said it was not common, at least not to anywhere near the same degree as the Germans did. The overwhelming majority of Soviet tanks in WWII were painted green in summer (various shades) and overpainted with lime, white paint etc. for winter.not true, the russians used tan,red brown and different shades of green ,camo on all there tanks in WWII when possible,........which was not common

Yep. I believe that is where it started is with the KV tanks and continued on with the JS versions.MG-42 wrote:* Didn't some of these have a rear firing MG mounted in the back of the turrets ?
