A discussion of box art
So I thought of this while reading the "Seeman me-109" thread which features an awesome airbrushed illustration. I started thinking of the small pinup posters that come with some of the Tamiya models (my Lancaster and Zero models both have them, amongst others). I then thought of the actual box art Tamiya uses, especially the 1/35 vehicle ones. So my question is...what do you guys think of the box art 21st uses? I really like the stuff tamiya does and I could easily imagine a non windowed xd box with a picutre on top like that found in the "seeman" thread.

Greetings
Thought the German Starfighter and Pearl Harbor box art was pretty good. The P-38's weren't bad either, especially the special edition ones.
I thought BBI could have done so much MORE to make the box for the Blue Angels F-18 better. Pictures of the team performing their awesome maneuvers around the box would have been wonderful.
The best box I have in my collection is the Corgi Red Arrows 40th Anniversary Set I have. The front of the box features a great picture of the Arrows doing what they do best, flying their nine plane diamond formation. The box is also so well made and displays the planes really well. It's my favorite box and I actually display the box with the planes.

Tamiya's box art is very nice but when it comes to box art I think it's very hard to beat the work that Ron Volstad does for Dragon. He's also responsible for many of the color plates in the Squadron/Signal "In Action" and Osprey "Men-at-Arms" books. Check out this link for some good examples of his work:

MiniArt is another company that has some very nice box art for some of their kits. I'm not sure who the artist is (can't quite make his name out) but check out the catalogue and then the 1/35 Military section and click on the pictures until you get to the HQ images for the box art:

I've got a soft spot for the "maschinenkrueger" style kits. Google that if your not familiar with this world. I love how their model kit boxes have an old raw military style to them. Some of the kits have data cards which have the old "typewriter" font and have holes punched along one edge so you can file them away easily. An example is http://maschinenkrueger.com/forum/index ... pic=2639.0
