Has anyone actually asked Monkey Depot?

All kinds of speculation going on about the blowout of 21st items at MD. Are there any members who might be friends with them? Why hasn't someone just came out and asked MD "where was all of this inventory and how did you aquire it". I realize they might not comment but couldn't hurt to ask. It may be that this sale has absolutely nothing to do with 21st's solvency.

Even if there were only a few people left at 21st and they had this inventory them selves, why didn't they put it on their website at a discount and sell it directly. There are some members who have been on the retail marketing side of things who might add to this. If a company was needing revenue, why would they be holding back all of this inventory?

Also, does 21st have an actual business office? If there are any members in the San Francisco area, maybe they could go by their location and see if its even still there.

21c may not have the staff left to handle orders like that and do the shipping. Sounds like a need for quick cash to me.

Yep - this has to be a liquidation - either to get some emergency cash, but they can't be generating that much at the prices we're seeing, or prior to closing up shop.

Okay -I sent an email to Monkey Depot's sales dept.
Don't know if they will respond or even know why they have the stock they do...
Will let you know if I get anything back.

They could be trying to raise some quick cash while trying to reduce costs by eliminating a warehouse facility that they are either leasing or own and could sell. The cost to truck it to CA or elsewhere would probably exceed what they could get back out of it, and for MD to have the prices they do, their freight costs and mark-up have to be minimal.

Anybody notice the outrageous shipping charges MD is charging.

I was ordering three 1/18 tanks....... how can you go wrong, me thinks...?

$47 shipping on an order totaling $59

I don't think so........ :(

AND I think MD is dumping 1/18 to concentrate their stock on 1/6.

Yeah, I wish the shipping was more reasonable...but you can't beat those prices.

Here is the reply I got from MD:
Thank you for your inquiry. As far as I know, 21C is fine, but I don't have any
inside information. Although not a focus of ours, we have carried all of their
lines including the 1/18 for years. We are just looking to clear out some
inventory for a limited time to free up some space as we have several storage
places that we need to get freed up.

Us East coast guys are getting hammered by the shipping cost.
Any of you West coast guys close to Meza, AZ? If you picked up some of their product and sold it to us East coast guys, even charging half of what MD is charging for shipping, you could still make some money on the deal.
Any Takers??

I finally bit on the Smoke II F-104. $40 shipped is cheaper than I will ever see this on the net. Shipping was $14 and I can say this has been my personal experience when shipping out pieces this size with USPS. It was only going to be $5 more to ship an M-48 or Panther.
