Small Scale Military Headquarters

A poll to gauge what kind of interest there would be in a full hull german u-boat, either type vii or type ix made to 1/20 scale.

It would be basic....not lavishly detailed. Come with hull, deck and conning tower. Painting and detailing would be up to the buyer. Shipped in probably three seperate packages.

Materials uncertain but possibly a styrofoam hull. Styrofoam can be painted to the point where the texture is gone, with some effort, if the slight texture would bother you.

So, are you interested and at what price? Serious responses only please. You may be asked to pony up with the money..

There's no need to add an 'i'm not interested' option because if you're not interested you shouldn't be responding to the poll.

I'd go to $1500, knowing that I would probably need to invest another few grand in a building or addition to display it in!

The smaller scale subs ( 1/25th ) go for $550-$900 . A 1/18 or 1/20 sub would be awesome but HUGE.

Matthew, ever thought of making a PT boat? Not sure what scale to do, but I sure do like the PT boats.

how long would a Type XXIII be in the scale in inches(don't know how long a real Type XXIII is/was...I just think they are cool boats)

a type xxiii would be about 6 feet.

For display, the best bet would be to hang it against an appropriate length wall. You'd probably want a 13+ foot wall. You can make or paint an ocean coloured back drop for it if you like.

Though big, if it is mostly foam it would be light....easy to hang.

Think about this seriously all. This may be the only chance you have in your lifetime to get a u-boat of this size.

Uh-oh! Aferg found the "zoom" button on the photocopier and is getting ideas! The idea IS intriguing, though!

Of course, that would create the need for some German sailors, and perhaps a PT boat (especially for those without an Avenger to display with it).

you can get a pt boat from Dumas. They make a 48 inch kit that you can find on the net or on ebay, sometimes in built up form. Looks good. About $300 give or take.

The Brit super 1/6 guy who builds unbelievable 1/6 stuff, railway guns, armored trains, armored ferries etc, etc.

Peter Shaw, is building a 1/6 Mark VIIC U-Boat conning tower with the flack platforms and a few sections of decking and what he is building will be around 24 feet. He says he draws the line at 24 foot as the entire boat would be 33 feet. Too big even for Shaw.
