I've come across one recently-- in the box pictures show a solid white chevron/emblem on fusilage, all the out of the box pictures show a single red stripe on fus and wing emblems. Were the stripes part of a decal set in the box or what? Is this another version or did the previous owner not add any appropriate decals?

Photoshop. The BBI checkerboard Corsair didn't come with red stripes. I believe that paint scheme they chose is a fictitous scheme anyway. Well, let me take that back..a little bit. There were checkerboard cowled Corsairs in Korea that looked just like that except for two differences. They were all -4 or -5 models, therefore they would have had 4 blade props, and they would have had red stripes in the white bars. So there's two strikes against that Corsair. Back in the late 80's and early 90's there was a guy in San Francisco area who owned the Corsair of which BBI is basing that scheme. I have a picture of it somewhere. I'll have to find it and post it. Not sure if that exact Corsair is still flying or not...

I painted red stripes in my Corsair to make it look a little closer to reality...plus it looks better anyway w/ red stripes...
