When will we know for sure if 21st C is dead or not ???

Post by General Blasto » Thu Jan 22, 2009 9:51 am

I was just curious, with all the rumors floating around IF we will
ever know if 21st C is dead and gone or still afloat and going to make new models in 1 18th :? LEt us all still hope that 21st will cut a deal with Target or another big box store or some other distributor  I would sure need to see a ONE EIGHTEENTH scale KT. 1/16th just looks too large next to 1/18th on the battlefield- shame, I had to sell off all of my 1/16th Pershing tanks cause they were just too big :( and THAT'S why I'm not buying any 1/16th scale  Perhaps if 21st is dead, then FOV and BBI will step up and crank out the KT and other WWII armour and figures. A word of thought 8)

I just hope that 21st will release the KT before they disappear from the 1/18th world. I'm hoping though that 21st is just in a sleep mode for now and will continue to produce 1/18th products be it re-paints or new items.

I forgot to add, that when someone offers the pre-order on the KTs, I will preorder 6 of them, just to be on the safe side  :)

my trick knee tells me 21c is down but not out. I think they'll bounce back in time....they've proven to be very resiliant over the years. Right now they're just curled up in a little ball, waiting for the sun to come out again.

Didn't 21st kind of recluse a few years ago, right after TRU stopped carrying their stuff?
If I'm not mistaken about this, then that only means that they have the ability to bounce back.
I looked at the trap, Ray.

Plus. I've been reading here that some WM's are taking what XD figures they have, off Clearance price and putting them back to $4.97 each.
Hmmmm..... :?

Perhaps some of our favorite e-tailers could chime in here. They would know if 21C has product for sale. All the WM and TRU stuff could be them clearing out their warehouses...

A bad sign for me was seeing their latest Tru restock being 4 of the 1:18 planes that are the least in demand. But hey, maybe I'm reading too much into that. Believe me, I don't want 21st to go away.

I would support 21st totally to help get going again if they would even slowly release repaints. That and an update on their site occasionally, even if for only small talk. With the latest product slowdown and silence, one could only wonder about their longevity. I hope they make it.

We are just a bunch of 1/18 fanatics that cannot support 21C by our limited numbers. I believe 21C has a market for smaller than 1/18 and will stick to the smaller scales for the next few years.

I do hope we will get the KT, time will tell.

21C left 1/6 for dead and looks like they will not return, 1/18 may be the next to bite the dust. 1/16 is just too varied in selection not to have hurt 21C.

BTW - Yesterday I picked up a 21C 1/6 RC Humvee at "Tuesday Morning"
for $60. These were in Wallyworld for $200. They are on eBay for $200-250 today.. That has got to have hurt somebody....... not me, I love it and I'm debating on buying more for the investment....

Yeah, the last time 21st had a heart attack, it left the 1/6th scale completely, and concentrated on the smaller scale like the 1/18th, because it has very few competitors in this scale (if it had any at all) at the time.

So I guess it's yay for the 1/32-and-smaller crowd?

But I think the 1/18th King Tiger will come out. Even if it isn't released by 21st. Like what always happens in China, someone will just simply copy that and market it under a different name.

Although, 21st C still pops out the occasional 1/6 weapons set.
With that being said, mayhaps we can at least look forward to random 1/18 items if 21st C does indeed try to drop the scale.

21st Century Dead or Alive????

Post by memaddog » Thu Jan 22, 2009 5:07 pm

Well,
I Just wanted to say, that my Wal Mart had restocked this morning 1:18 WWII Soldiers, both German & American and raised their price back-up to $4.95. These are the latest release that have diffrent legs for them to put in diffrent positions. The pegs have been empty for almost 2 weeks with nothing but a few 1:32 artillary guns that have been there since before Thanksgiving!!!! I for one hope 21st Century is not DEAD, I'm still looking for their ME-262 and few other items that they released back in the fall.
I'm another one that would order at least 3 to 4 King Tigers when they are released!!!!
Bring them on 21st Century!!!!!!

We sell about 2 dozen 21C items in our store. i needed to place an order last week. the stock list they sent had almost nothing on it! a couple Macchi fighters and 1 zero along with the Galland me-262. 1/18th was no better quad trailors, platoon figures and the bulldog was it! the only items in stock were the 1/6th weapons sets. many of the guys ive dealt with over the last 4 years are gone. they seem to be down to a skeleton crew. I certainly hope they are not done. i have been looking into some other lines to fill the gap they have left. I really hope they can pull it out!!!!

if they can get the KT out, plus a few repaints of planes and the 88 that would help them to stay alive until things get better. There is still a keen following for 1/18. Too bad the spitfire was destroyed because that would be a great repaint for them to do.

But they could still do a bubble canopy jug, another P-51, another 262 (like Gallands' or a Sturmvogel), grey and 3 colour 88's, even a FW-190D repaint...

Lots of possibilities if they can scrape together the money to get them made.

I hear thats getting harder to do. the Chinese have increase minimum orders and shipping costs are way up. all reasons why its harder to get back on the horse!
