You need to use acrylic paints on soft vinyl plastic

enamel paints will never dry it reacts with the soft plastic in some weird way.
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!

Painting

Post by bpxbrian » Thu Dec 25, 2008 7:51 am

Is it okay to have a model that has mixed paints? For example, body is sprayed with Testors, but detailed parts are acrylic?

Also, which brand is the best acrylic and where do you buy yours? Nowadays, it seems there's not many sources for modelers.

Thanks.

As long as the base coat is dry, there's no problem mixing types of paints.

I have only used Tamiya acrylics and love them but you must be careful dry brushing with them for they act differently than what enamel will.

Enamels

Post by bpxbrian » Tue Dec 30, 2008 7:29 am

Is it okay to use enamels (say Testors) on XD parts such as landing gear struts, etc. to add more detail without any concern of it staying "tacky?"

Thanks experts.
