Wow, 250 bucks for a winter Stuka. I gave one of those away to a friend of mine a couple of years ago. I guess I should have kept it.

A year ago, I saw a bunch of the Pearl Harbor P-40s at Wal-Mart for $25. Badcat has it for $125.

i've got one i'm waiting to convert into a stuka G, using Pickelhaube's conversion kit.....maybe i should reconsider.

Granted these items offered are out of production but I didn't think they were worth that much. Kinda surprising!

I agree, not surprising. On ebay they could easily go for what BCA is asking , or even more. I never thought the Super Cobra copters I paid $39 ea. for would eventually be worth $200 ea. but I sold several for close to that. It's just supply and demand.

Sky Captain P-40 for seventy-five bucks.

Theres not one of these items that can't be had on ebay for less than 50% of what he is asking. They may not be on ebay today but just watch and you can get them all for a lots less.

I just bought about a week ago 2 skycaptains for 10.00 each. UPS ground shipping was 14.10.

Bear in mind that most stores put a higher price on out-of-production items simply because they are OOP. They see it as a chance to collect a little cash on top of their initial investment if it is an item they ordered as part of an order in the past, or to recoup whatever they had to pay to obtain it after the fact. Whether or not those prices are realistic is irrelevant; they bank on the fact that someone, somewhere, out there will pay the price they want.

I also collect HO scale VW bus miniatures , and I noticed an ebay store was selling a set for triple what it was selling for in some brick hobby shops. When I emailed him to ask why he was doing that, he said it was because he was selling them like hotcakes and most of those being ordered were going to remote areas where hobby shops were rare, like the middle of Montana.

Just like we see on ebay all the time - there is someone willing to pay any price.

True, they will sell at his price regardless of what you can get them for somewhere else.

Yikes I have 20 of them. Forget about the customs I should sell them !!!!

well yeah supply and demand - badcatt can sell for whatever they want...but most of these things can be found for half that on ebay -
so this is good and bad - If you have the aircraft you can start raising the price if you dont have these - well ebay may start going up as people see more online retailers trying to make a little extra out of their surplus stock - Skycaptain p-40s - i remember passing on those for $15

well, i think all those prices are pretty steep, given the economy and all. In a few years they may fetch that but not now.

Anyway, my winter stuka is destined to be converted to a Stuka G tank buster.

MTS has done this for some time now - they used to have spitfires and night fighter for apx. $100.

Whoa! This is laughable, considering the Sky Captain bird was a real crock which never took off in the first place (I guess SmallJoes.com finally managed to get rid of it). Why pay $25 more for a paint scheme so unpopular that seldom people want it (i.e. one with ZERO resalable potential) when you can avail yourself of a Pearl Harbor P-40 for a meager $49.95?

And why do so-called etailers keep coming up with these “vintage offerings” of retired products and mysterious “warehouse finds”? Do they keep this merchandise for themselves in order to speculate with it in the future, while at the same time claiming these products are no longer in stock? And wouldn’t that be lying through their teeth?

Because this practice seems highly suspect—remember how they promoted the new BBI Zero as a lost-and-found stash, when it was nothing of the sort? How many hocus-pocus “warehouse finds” will they come across? How many more items which were marked “out of stock” will see the light of day in due time?

Are we to believe that they really came across these goodies and didn't keep them tucked away to make a profit when they could no longer be found at original retail prices? And this is ethical how?

The items shown here are all above original retail. Like fine wines, lobster out of season, and airline seats at Christmas, these tanks and airplanes are all subject to the laws of supply and demand. Our shiniest penny was required to acquire many of these items and they are priced accordingly

I for one was really disappointed in the Skycapatin P40! Not only did it not match the one in the greatest movie event of all time....it doesnt even turn into a sub!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well.. it's a business. If he thinks he can get the price, more power to him, though I won't be buying. If someone doesn't want to pay that much, then more power to them. No rules in this market other than charge what the market will bear and buyer beware!
