Picked this up on E-Bay for $15.25 shipped.

It finally arrived today.

It is NOT 1/15 scale. In fact, the bed comes out to 1/19 scale (real thing is 48" x 95", the model is just over 2.5" wide by 5" long)

The seat looks OK with a 1/18 figure sitting in it. We'll see how it looks once it's built...

The M-274 Mechanical Mule was "one of a series of small airborne vehicles devloed during the 1950's" (from the box).

It was mostly used in Vietnam, but other nations have used it since...

It was often used to carry a 106mm recoilless, but was also used to carry a TOW launcher. I've also seen pictures of it used as a stretcher carrier, since it had great rough terrain capability.

Try a google search or see:

They're selling surplus mules...

that is what i figured it was

i told you it was 1/19 scale but do you believe your poor moderator? noooooooo..

21c once had one built up on display at a toy show with xd vietnam figures around it and it looked pretty good. They also had a flying platform too but darned if i can find out who made that kit. If it's Glencoe as well i've never seen one.

The mule should build up pretty good for you and it's a neat addition to any vietnam collection. Mules with recoiless rifles were widely used in Vietnam...

The real 1:1 Mule had a feature whereby the sterring wheel flipped all the way forward so that a Marine crawling on the ground could set the choke and steer with one hand while crawling with the other hand.

Came in handy when involved in a firefight, bringing ammo in or wounded out.

I picked up one of the Glencoe Mules back when the XD Nam stuff first came out. I built the kit and did a head swap on a grenadier and an infantry dude and made a custom XD box for it. My conclusion was also that it came out to about 1/19 scale. I'll see if I can find my pics or take new ones. It's a great item for any Nam XD fan. The steering wheel works and the gun can be turned and elevated. Should have gotten two so I could have a plain cargo version. I boguht the 1/15 Glencoe Walker Bulldog too, but it's like 1/24 scale in actuality, so don't be fooled by that one. Also, it's pretty bad as a model.
