Got lucky on this one

Post by Black Lion VF-213 » Wed Oct 08, 2008 6:33 am

Have always been wanting a BBI Cripes A Mighty Mustang but ever since BadCat sold out the rest of them, I have only seen them on ebay going for $90 and even way more. Well I found one where the starting bid was $49.99. I watched it for a few days figuring someone would have noticed it by now and put in a bid. Nope 1 day left and put in the $49.99 bid and I won it!! I wonder why this happened? Is there no longer demand for this particular BBI Mustang? It hasn't arrived yet. Does anyone else have this Stang? If so, what do you think of the QC issues?

Congrads on the coup! You probably found a soft spot with the economy the way it is. Generally, BBI planes are really good on QC (with the exception of the gap on the Hellcat). Enjoy your plane! :)

BLACK LION VF-213:

What was the total cost of your Cripes A' Mighty? I got a Cripes A' Mighty two months ago for $78 (shipping included; $60 for the P-51).
I also own the BBI P-51 Donald Duck. The big difference between the two P-51s is that the Cripes A' Mighty doesn't have weathering like the Donald Duck. My Cripes has only a few minor paint scrape problems--the only medium problem is one of the tail wheel doors falls off---which is not a big problem because I display mine with the landing gear retracted.

I wanted the Cripes really bad because George Preddy's hometown in North Carolina is near my hometown.

Congrats... I missed the closing on that one, but I was watching it. poor listing gave it very little exposure. Had I remembered it was closing it may have cost you more. Regardless I am glad that someone here was the benefactor of the good deal. :)

total cost with shipping came to around $65. I've got the Donald Duck and the Hurry Home Honey Stang's as well. I like the Donald Duck except for the weathering. BBI put way too much. HHH has none. I like that. That way I can add my own someday. Probably won't though because if I ever have to sell my collection the HHH and C-A'-M Stangs would probably sell better with no mods.

I'm working on getting rid of the weathering on the Duck. Well not all of it, just the excess amount. Lots of gradation masking and airbrushing.
