new chinese hummer ?

That is an almost exact copy of the hummer! I wonder if the company sold the design. I dont really think its that important to national security that we couldnt sell it to them

the chinese army acquired a limited number and have made their own copy...they also received a small number of blackhawks...the hummer a la chinois is to replace the beijing 212 and 2020 jeep-like family eventually. i beleive the chinese-made copy of the hummer is actually a bit smaller than the american though

Ok, maybe a dumb question, but why would we sell the Chinese - a potential future threat/enemy - any of our military equipment? Or did some greedy private company do it w/o gov't permission/knowledge?

they were sold as civilian models to chinese private firms, who then allowed the to be inspected...the info is in the link i posted. it was civilian sales. the blackhawk story is a little more vague and i suspect complicated though....

Yeah the blackhawk was the one I thought was the most concerning.

Heck, when most of our major auto-makers (i.e. Ford, GM, etc) are already making their exact same cars in China and will soon begin selling those cars made in China to the US, its no small wonder regarding the similarity of their Hummer versus ours.

they were sold in the 1980's pre-tiananmen square, when the us sold military equipment to china to counter the 'soviet threat'.
