The New bbi me-109 "Daimler-Benz DB 605" Engine

Any experts on what the engine looked like during war time?

I seen some pics but they are taken from me-109 that are flying today, but they might have been upgraded a bit to today safety standards.

I am looking for paints codes, hoses fuel lines, ect, I think that might be a fun mod to do on this new bird. So far what I found out is that this new bbi bird has a lot of promises to be tricked out under the hood. 8)

The Me-109G2 was built with the DB 605 A1 motor originally. The pictures of teh coming model (and those in the Wikipedia) do not show the multitude of pipes and wires around the engine when installed in the aircraft. I know that they left it off the model because of costs, but the detailing should be easy to add. I'll try and scan a more detailed "mounted" engine for you.

I had this feeling if we every got engine detail we would not get wires and plumbing, would be cool if they did. No big deal, at least we have a engine, btw Any notice something wrong with the cover near the exhaust manifold????

There is that little lip that covers the top of the manifold on the real version but on the 1/18th scale version that lip is incorporated in the opening panel, any one know if this was done on the real version?

Vmf 115,
It looks like the heat shield of wich you speak should be mounted on top of the exhaust not the hood. No big deal. I must have it anyway.

Another slight inaccuracy: I believe the little teardrop shaped tank located in the middle of the engine mount only occurred on the left side (the model shows both). I was looking in my Squadron Walk-Around book this weekend and noticed that, but don't recall off hand what the purpose of the tank was. Hydraulics, or something.

In any case, I think the engine detail is a big step forward, and am glad to see this model is priced comparably with previous releases.

Then just to rub salt into the wound....check these out!!!
These are BOTH sides of the DB605 A1 and you can clearly see there is no tank in the void of the engine mount for the right side. However, there IS piping for a larger tank mounted just below the engine mount arm....guess what that's for???

FW is correct with the tank, but the hose routing is questionable.

A little more info on the pictures above:

The left (right side engine view) pictures I put up were of the Me-109 G-4 aircraft with the DB605 A-1 engine carrying what was called the GM-1 nitros oxide pack (the extra piping you can see through the engine bearer arms). The right picture (left side of the engine) is actually a G-5 with the added machine gun "bumps along the aft end of the cowl. The engine is the standard DB605 A-1 engine though...so all the piping is the same. The two tanks you see in front of and below the engine bearer arms (both sides) are the nitros oxide tanks themselves...piped to dump the NoX directly into the injector rails on both sides of the motor on demand.

When the G-6 model came out, the engine changed to the DB605D powerplant and the nitros oxide pack (GM-1) was changed out for the water-ethinol injection (MW-50) system.
