I need your advice - 1:18 Humvee
I need to purchase a realistic desert scheme Humvee. I started browsing around on SmallJoes.com and was overwhelmed with the selection. There are just too many to choose from.
Which one is the best? One of them came with 2 figures...that one may be the best value. But which one is the most realistic especially with the desert paint scheme?

The 21st Century M1025 in tan is a nice one value-wise, with the two figures as you said, and is probably the only way right now to get that fifth figure from 21st Century's modern Special Ops line-up. The CIA guy. He was never released carded, but also came with the Super Cobra.dandaman wrote:I need to purchase a realistic desert scheme Humvee. The Elite Force desert tan w/ weathering is a nice one too, and seems to be pretty realistic to me (of course, I never drove one around in Iraq!).

I'd go for the 21st version. Even though the TOW can't be mounted on the tripod, I'm very pleased with it. Definitely worth the money. (IIRC, the BBI versions don't have clear plastic in the windshield/windows and all, except possibly the Marine Super Humvee, seem to have the logo, which detracts from their realism, IMO.)

You're actually pleased with something 21c madeKing O' Fools wrote:I'd go for the 21st version. Even though the TOW can't be mounted on the tripod, I'm very pleased with it. Definitely worth the money.

To get back on topic, I would agree with KOF and go with the 21c version. It looks the most realistic and actually has glass in the windows. I believe it is also correctly scaled. Of course, it comes with the figures and all the weapons accessories. The tripod pieces are a mystery and really the only drawback to the vehicle.
For comparison, the BBI Hummers have pretty decent weathering, especially on the recent incarnations of the desert and woodland cammo vehicles. They also come with a tripod for the TOW launcher and a driver figure with accessories. There are some drawbacks to the realism of the vehicle, however. All versions of the BBI Hummer do not have glass in the windows and they also all have that hole in the floor of the rear passenger seats. This feature allows one to fit a figure in the rear seats, which cannot be done easily on the 21c hummer, but it still detracts from the vehicle. Also, some of the vehicles have that tacky "Hummer" logo printed on the hood, but the most recent versions do not.
If I were you, I would get the 21c Hummer in the desert cammo and the BBI Super Humvee.
Hope this helps

Don't forget...
Don't forget the GI Joe Humvees. I'm probably in the minority opinion here regarding this, but I think Hasbro's Joe Humvee tops the rest! I gave my BBI humvee to the Salvation Army and bought a Joe Night Ops Humvee instead and am quite pleased with it.
It has an opening hood, detailed undercarriage, removable tools, interchangeable weapons, rubber tires, and plenty of nice little details. Granted you're looking for the desert camo version, which Hasbro also makes and I think shares almost all the same main features with.
I don't think any of the 21C or BBI versions have an opening hood. On BBI's there's a rack of extra TOWs that are glued down in the cargo bed which is really annoying. As mentioned, they also have no windows. 21C's look pretty good, though look harder to squeeze figures into (maybe they're actually more to scale?). Plus 21C has one or two versions (like the canvas-topped cargo version) that the others don't make.
Maisto also makes a wide-variety of Humvees, though I think the only armament is an M-60. Does give it that nice die-cast heft though.
And for those with more $$$, the Exoto humvees look to be very nice!
Finally, there's the PTE version (s), which while lacking detail and being oversized, actually have a lot of good working features. I think they may be the only one with a properly operating roof hatch (with the split hatch hinged in the middle).
