Now I'm just pissed.

I love my big F-104s, but those damn landing gear SUCK. I take my time with them and all the sudden the little round pieces that grasp the bars snap. This has happened on BOTH of my F-104s. This just F@#$&% pisses me off! Now I have to superglue the gear down forever, just like my other one. DAMMIT. I'm tellin' ya I've had so many problems with 1:18 landing gear compared to 1:32. Actually I think the only true landing gear break on a 1:32 was a tail gear on my Ju-87. I don't get it. Even when I'm so damn careful...

My MiG, both my F-104s, and my Me-109E. That's 80% of my XD.
This won't stop me from awesome jets, but dammit, this is just uncalled for. It hurts to down a plane forever... Maybe I can hang it somewhere... Both of them, but then I have to break the gear again on my Tiger Meet, because they're superglued.

Yeah, when Jason from Admiral talked at length about why they would have to make the landing gear for the F-4 non-functional (separate gear in down position that you snap into place), it makes me think of the type of situation you describe. As awesome as "works like the real thing" is in 1:18, it's not always practical. Moving parts all too frequently = breaking parts. And that's not just 21C.

Bingo, The landing gear on the BBI F-4 is the best feature on that model to me. I too glued the gear down on my F-104 models. And I glued the main gear wheels also to keep them straight.

Yes, I support this idea! If the landing gear cannot be functional + relatively free of easy breakage, then a separate piece that be installed for the "down positioned" landing gear would be best.

Well, that gives you a reason to consider BBI's upcoming 1/32 F-104 as a smaller addition to your 1/18 F-104s. Also, I assume the BBI F-104 will have some weathering. The 21st F-104 Smoke II I saw at ToysRUS didn't appear to have weathering.

Damn straight Panzer!
I'm really looking forward to the BBI F-104, as it's in my main scale, it's of a great subject, and the F-104 was used by many nations. I love my big ones but I have one small room to put my planes, and I like the idea of one scale, one room, and possibilities for a whole collection of repaints in one room.

Both my 104s have damaged main gear. I managed to snap my Tiger Meet gear about 15 seconds out of the box.

what exactly has been breaking on the landing gear- I have four of them- On a couple, the plane would sit too low; I had to remove the gear, heat it and tighten it up where it rotates, allowing it to sit higher on the drooping side. But, what is it that breaks so easily with those y'all have?
