1/18 Ju-52 r/c found

Post by aferguson » Wed Apr 23, 2008 9:14 am

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthre ... ost9621180

Here's a thread on an r/c Ju-52 i found. Works out to virtually exactly 1/18, about one inch too long and exactly right on span. Don't know price yet or where to buy, other than in the UK. Follow the thread for more info if interested.

My only problem is that it will make my C-47 look small, since its about 1/20. I guess i'll hang them in different rooms. :)

It's a beauty! If they sold it prepainted here in the states I would definitely pick one up!

probably won't have the corrugated skin texture of the real bird but still it's quite nice and with a bit of work could be awesome. At last a ride for my fallschirms. :)

Pretty sweet. My dad always loved the Ju-52s. I do as well. If I could get an affordable 1:32 version that'd be awesome.

That thing is sweet Aferg! A little paint here and there and that plane would rock.

found a couple more pictures of the Ju 52. Hope they will be for sale over here. I expect them to be around $200 with shipping, hopefully less.

finally found a place that sells them over here. Richmond RC based in canada, is the north american distributor. You can buy direct from them or contact them for a dealer nearer to you that can get it for you.

So, if you don't feel you can wait for the 21c one to come out ( ) they are $150 plus $17.50 shipping.

at this point you know as much as i do but i assume it does come prepainted. ARF's (almost ready to fly) generally do. You would probably have to apply the stickers/decals, do some assembly (greatly simplified if you are not planning on actually flying it) etc but out of the box most of the work should be done for you.

went to their site and couldnt find it, even with their search engine. Found a wiring harness for it though  Will keep searching, this one has me intrigued.

i don't think it's up on their site. you have to email them......then you can enquire how to buy from them direct or ask them for a dealer near you or online etailer that has them.

If you're wondering why there's an EADS logo under the cockpit windows and several flags on the fuselage, here's the story:

This Ju 52, now registered "F-AZJU," is a CASA 352L (Societa Construcciones Aeronautica Sociedad Anonima [sic])-the Spanish-licensed version of the Ju 52/3m (S/N 22-103) with the Spanish Air Force. When Roger started to strip the paint from the fuselage, he was surprised to discover two constructor plaques dated 1943 and 1946; the plaques state that the plane is a Ju 52/3m, where it should be written "CASA 352L." This means that more than likely the fuselage was built in Germany, and that can be explained very simply: during the 1936 to 1939 Spanish Civil War, the Spanish Nationalist Air Force had about 60 Ju 52/3m that it acquired from Germany and that were operated by the famous Condor Legion; the planes were S/N 22-47 to 22-106. CASA bought the Ju 52 building license in 1942, built 170 CASA 352L between 1943 and 1953 for the Spanish Air Force and gave them S/N 22-110 to 22-279. In 1971, this Ju 52 was sold to Warbirds of Blackbush (the future Warbirds of Great Britain) and was registered as G-BECL. It was later sold to the Midland Air Museum in Coventry, England, and then, in the mid-1980s, to the Aces High Co. of North Weald, near London.

G-BECL was sold to AJBS in 1990 and flown to La Ferte-Alais on May 31, 1990. Since then, it has been stripped and dismantled to the last bolt; everything has been inspected and repaired; where necessary, parts have been replaced and corrosion-treated, and all the circuits and systems are new. The three Spanish-built 750hp Enmasa Beta 4 engines have been overhauled, and the cockpit is now fully equipped with original German instruments. Though most of the expenses were covered by AJBS, European plane builder EADS (the mother company of Airbus) joined in to speed up the restoration, and it was completed last year-hence the EADS logo below the cockpit windows.

received my Ju-52 today. Big sucker. Looks just like the pictures in the posted thread. If you don't mind the printed on corrugation it's quite usable. Markings are not great but ok. You could paint it but you'd lose the corrugation effect.

Access to the interior is limited but it should be possible to paint it and add some desired details. Cutting out the left side jump door will be tricky but also do-able with some thought and patience.

Overall, well worth the money if you like the subject. Now those jump ready fallschirmjagers i hoarded all these years will come into their own.

Cool. I'd love to ask you for pics, but, well, you know.
