To sell DAK figures or not to sell

Post by General Blasto » Sat Apr 19, 2008 2:01 pm

From my modern figures ad, nothing seems to be selling or trading for figures, it may be too early to tell though :( But I'm trying to figure out what to do with the DAK figures I have, I don't model the Afrika theater. I'm only buying the DAK figures for the heads primarily. Then I replace the heads with other WWII heads. The only other thing I would save are the MP-40s from the MG figures. I tried to paint the a couple of the figures with markers, but they are ok at best. The biggest problem with DAK figures is they all have rolled up sleeves. If they had long sleeves, then they'd make great party members, but they don't :( So I'm trying to figure if I should sell them and if so, then what is fair to sell them for ??? Is there any intrest in New, but out of the package 1 18 DAK figures ???

To sell DAK figures or not to sell

I am new to the forum so I am not allowed to talk about buying/selling figures. But it would be interesting to see some pics of the DAK figures with the swapped heads. I am a big fan of the North African theater.

General, don't sell them repaint them. Markers...? I'd go with paint. The short sleeves would work well in a spring or summer Euro dio not just Afrikakorp. Now the desert style boots could be a problem. Try some Squadron putty (found at most hobby shops) cover the boot laces let dry and then sand. The boots should look like the standard German leather boot when finished, add some black paint and you got a short sleeved Wehrmacht trooper.

Yes, and you could also use them in the Italion campaign as well. Or in Southern France late Summer 1944. A lot of the tropical stuff made there way the European front late in the war.

If they're complete sell 'em for $5 a piece... If not, sell them for $3.50 or $4... Someone will likely buy them either way.

If 21st were wise, they'd put out all figures with any head variation they had available to them, and then change the deco up on the headsculpts at varying points to make it even more diverse... As a consumer I generally love 21st's stuff with little gripe, but as a company I sometimes scratch my head as to why they don't do certain (seemingly) logical things like that.

I also don't get why they simply don't make ONE body of any given uniform type, no ammo pouches or anything, just very basic bare bones with belt and harness... Make the pouches removable, and save some cash. BAR ammo interchangeable onto any US body, M1 ammo the same, and on Germans MP40 or 44 ammo pouches interchangeable with K-98 ammo pouches... It seems logical to do the single bodysculpt and make the accessories additions to it rather than what they do now, then giving you the wrong weapon for the ammo on the sculpt, but whatever.

Anyway... If you're not into N. Africa there's not much reason to keep the figures. I say recoop your cost if they're complete and if they're not recoop some of your cost. I've actually gotta nab a couple DAK guys here when I'm out again to help bolster the troops for when Indy's in town.
