My local ToysRUs has the Daisy June at $39.99---the normal price.

With shipping/taxes, the Target,com price for the Daisy June is about $41 for me.

3 questions about the F4U Daisy June:

1. Does it have any folding wing/landing gear problems similar to the BBI F6F Hellcat?
2. Is there any history with the Daisy June such as who is the pilot, any kills, etc.? (I don't see any kills painted under the canopy).
3. How would you rate the Daisy June to other 1/18 aircraft from BBI and 21st Century?

1. None that I know of. They work fine...

2. The paint scheme is a fictitious one used by an airshow bird...

3. One of the very best in my book. The working flaps (although a pain in the caboose) really sets it apart... It's a must have, plain and simple.

Thanks for the info. It's good to know I'm getting a good plane with no F6F folding wing problems, although I still might get an F6F. I'm disappointed that Daisy June is a fictional plane---I guess "Marines Dream" would be better, but it's long gone.

The bbi "Marines Dream" is an airshow bird as well. The real "Marines Dream" was an F4U-1 flown by Ed Olander of VMF-214 Black Sheep. The two paint schemes don't look anything alike.

The bbi corsair are very nice and I would recomend getting one even though they are airshow paint jobs. If that really bothers you, you could always repaint it how ever you wanted.

I have read on this forum and have seen several profiles which list the "Daisy Jane" Paint scheme as serving with the VMF511 on the USS Block Island in 1945. (notice the large "I" on the tail.) Where did you see it as an airshow bird? MRC Easy Model also makes a 1/72nd scale corsair with these markings and it's listed as serving on the Block Island as well.

Thanks for the update. That's interesting because the only thing I could find in English referring to Daisy June, VMF 511, USS BLOCK ISLAND is another Daisy June model:

That suggests there really was a WW II Daisy June.

Dude! Don't skimp out on the BBI Corsair. It's one of the most detailed and sturdy plane I've seen yet.

2 questions about the BBI F4U Corsair "Daisy June":

1. The tail wheel on mine won't lock into the down position. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it?
2. What is the glass window in the cockpit floor for? (I heard the Corsair supposedly had some visibility problems because the cockpit is positioned back from the nose---is the floor window supposed to provide more downward visibility?)

The tail wheel in my Marines dream was real hard, I mean real hard to get locked down. I thought I was going to break it hard.

The window in the floor of the cockpit was in the early F4U-1s' they didn't really give the pilot any advantages. In the field the ground crews actually painted over them, and they were subsequently dropped from production with the later F4U-1A's.

I finally managed to snap the tail wheel into place---but at first I thought I was going to break it.

But what was the cockpit floor window for---to give better landing visibilty?

dragon53, glad I could help.

I know what you mean about the tailwheel I thought I was going to break mine too.

As for the window on the bottom of the fusalage. I can not answer for certain as I have heard a couple of different explanations; one being that it was to help in attacking shipping, and the other is that it was to aid in landing. Either way it does not really matter as it was considered pretty much useless and was deleted early on in the production of the F4U-1A.
