Small Scale Military Headquarters

My 1/16th scale Hen long RC Pershing*smoke and sound one* arrived today. I paid $65.00 total for this tank shipped.
Upon opening and taking tank out nothing was found to have broken in shipping. In the box was the tank which includes a .50 cal MG ,tanker figure upper torso(looks like garbage), radio control, battery pack, charger, 6mm plastic BBS, cardboard target ,smoke fluid and instructions.
First over all impression is cOOL! I put the antenna in the sending unit. I had to take back off off unit to get the antenna to go into the hole as the screw base to which the antenna was supposed to go into was slightly off center, then replaced the back. Put batteries in the tank and fired her up!
First off the smoke is cool looking. The tanks speed is not bad .the farther forward you push the stick the faster it goes, can make it crawl along nice and slow. Rest of the features worked fine on my example. BB gun shoots great not a good idea to shoot inside *was a nice ricochet . Paint job isn't too bad but I repainted the top half (did not do the bottom half till I get brave enough to take the tracks off )and then put the rub on decals on. I will be buying more of these SOON. Next one will be the Tiger 1 or Panzer IV . So over all, I feel well worth the money for what you get.If any questions feel free to ask.

ever figure out what ped rail was?

Not a clue Lets just say the instructions are in English. But do they make sense? AHH not much.The translation is terrible, almost comical

What's runtime like on this, or any other tank by chance?

I'm considering a purchase somewhere down the line and was curious how long you have to play with it since this would be more for fun than display (for me).

The ped rail thing is just some made up sales spiel or mistake.

Nice review Kim, but how about some pics...?? Im seriously considering picking up one of the 1:16 WS (Trumpeter) T-34/85's like the one in the link below, but I'd sure like to find one as a non-functional/partially functional "bargain bin" tank like the ones some of you have bought, I want it for a static display only and really have no need of, or interest in the RC features. Assuming I can find one of these T-34's at a fairly reasonable price, then I have to figure out how I can cobble together and suitably repaint some 1:18 figures to look like Red Army tank riders... I don't imagine this will be simple, but it should be possible to do.

A quick note ****
I have some of these(M26 Pershing) new in the box as I bought a case of each(smoke-sound and the shooting versions) when I first started in the hobby. I thought that 1/16 to 1/18 may be like 1/29th to 1/32nd scale trains sometimes are. I was wrong with a BIG difference in size. I took one out of the box and played with it, then cut it up for parts after seeing the size difference compared to Tiger Is, Panthers, etc. I will put out an ad to sell these for $35 plus shipping next time I place ads Da General

I got one of these about 18 months ago just because it's a significant piece of history and I gave up on it showing up more mainstream. It was from a Canadian company that was offering it cheap to showcase their upgrades for the more available stuff at that time. The running gear makes it!! Metal individual link tracks, metal sprockets, etc.

Tossed all the RC stuff since static is my interest.

The base model's detail is well up the 21c's standards and in some ways surpasses it.

The only main prob is the Main Gun Tube. Way too big a diameter and, I think even too short, due mainly for shooting plastic bb's.

It was ~USD175 shipped at that time which was only about 50 bucks over what they were otherwise asking just for the upgrades. That made the base model they used pretty cheap.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but this is what a HL rc Pershing becomes after a month spent detailing and repainting/weathering it.
In the past year I have bought and upgraded the HL Tiger, Panzer III, Pershing, WSN T-34/85, and now I am converting to RC a 1/18 BBI Sherman (and planning to convert a 21st century Panther too).

These things are addictive. I now have a Pershing,"pantiger"callled that because it is neither a tiger nor a panther but a hybrid of the two and just today a tiger 1 arrived by ups Lot more fun that my 1/6th M5. so i plan on selling that and going with the 1/16th scale RC tanks.

Man that looks fabulous. Looks to me like that gun barrel has been completely redone.... howd'ya do that..??

Since the original barrel is too short, and I wanted also to make the barrel hook functional, I replaced it using a brass airsoft barrel cut to lenght.
The hook was cut and hinged to make it operable, as was the driver's hatch (which hides the main switch and the recharge plug). The loader hatch received real springs. The commander's cupola received transparent windows.
Both the turret and the hull were textured to simulate the casting roughness.
The hull MG has a led (for MG shooting) and is mounted on a ball.
Periscope guards have been self-built and added too, etc.

There are several similar (or identical) descriptions at various locations on the web. As best that I can surmise, the pedrail roughly equates to a tank's suspension and system of rubber rimmed roadwheels, and return rollers. In the case of Hen Long using this term for the RC Pershing, it is in essence a bad example of "Chinglish".
