Small Scale Military Headquarters

Although I know some etailers dont believe it would be a seller, I cant help but think a 1:18 scale A-10 would be marketable to several types of collectors. The new and improved GI Joe 3 3/4 scale GI joe line is flying off the pegs. An A-10 could be appealing to the GI Joe fans as well as us 1:18 scale collectors, and who knows how many other scale collectors when they see the wow factor at that size.

A company could produce several cool "real" paint schemes and even do a fantasy black or blue version for GI Joe fans, they wouldnt even have to use the GI Joe name (to save licensing issues). Just paint it and slap it in a box.

Your guys' thoughts?

Agreed. It was big in the Transformers movie - imagine if it shows up in the Joe movie?

Somebody, somewhere, sometime, somehow just HAS to do this. I think this may be up AT's alley if they do well with the SPAD. If they can make money on that they can do the A-10 on their neck!

I wonder what percentage of BBIs sales on the Falcon and Hornet came from TRU vs. on-line etailers. My guess is more have gone to specialty shops than ever moved through a big box store.

i know everyone always dumps on the pte a-10 but for now that is the best A-10
in 1/18 toys out there, maurader john was going to have an exclusive cobra blue version but that fell through,

I still think although it has its shortcomings it is still a nice vehicle.

Keep that under your hat olifant..... once 21C gets wind of it I'm sure they will threaten to release theirs at a lower price, and ruin it for everyone.

Many posters say there are no modern jet models because consumers won't buy modern jets because they want more repaints of plastic FW-190s, P-51s and BF-109s.

So why are there numerous die cast F-15s, F-14s, F-16s, A-10s, F-4s, F/A-18s?

As I've said before, "Build them and they will sell." The BBI 1/32 F-4J is living proof of that.

Spad is the nickname for the Skyraider, which AT is producing.

Oh - ok. Didn't know that. I guess you learn something new everyday. I got excited it was the WW1 plane.

I think it would be a seller. The modern military items have a big crossover for the GI JOE 3 3/4" collector crowd, whereas the more historical items do not as often.

The key, of course, is the price. It will be high for what will likely be a specialty-market only item. Will collectors support the product or play the "I'll buy it but only if goes on clearance" card.

Recent comments on this board about price increases cause me some concern and if I was one of the 1:18 scale players I would probably be reconsidering any plans.

Hmm, wasn't the Skyraider also the original Vietnam era "Sandy" rescue escort bird? Didn't someone recently suggest using the 'Hog for the same job?

I fear this is hurting the 1/18 hobby as well. I'm sure people playing the "fair weather" game on pricing takes a toll on what the manufacturer's will produce and what retailers are willing to carry.

However, I can see another side to this too. Maybe all the manufacturers will rethink the "mass market/general buyer" approach and center it around "collectors". Collectors are usually willing to pay the higher price if they are purchasing a subject that is limited in numbers by a paint scheme or the subject itself. Maybe that is the approach needed to bring us the larger subjects in 1/18.

Yep. The A-1 was the Vietnam era "Sandy" and the forerunner for the development of the A-10.

The A-10 has been taking on the SAR role in addition to its CAS role and other roles for years now. First at times in Desert Storm, then in Kosovo, and now currently in Iraq and Afghanistan. As usual, it has performed the role with excellence.

Good point...... maybe the large size of modern aircraft are easier to produce in these scales? I don't know. However, there is no doubt that modern stuff is very popular.

I would gladly take a hit in the wallet for a nice 1/18 scale A-10. (There 21C, if you're reading this, does that ease your minds a little?)
