What kind of repaint do you guys want to see?

Francis S. "Gabby" Gabreski. This is a classic P-47 scheme. He had 28 kills with the 56th fighter squadron, and he went on to fly F-86s in Korea. He had 6.5 kills in Korea.

Yes, I want Gabby. He is a member of the Polish brotherhood. Also, I would like to see a 324th FG - 316th FS Jabo from the Italian campaign. Mainly because I just bought a grouping to one of these guys. Not many air to air kills for these guys, but they sure lit up the ground.

My P-47 wish list:

1. Gabreski's P-47D with the RAF camouflage
2. "Eileen" without the defects (missing antenna and gunsight)

Gabreski, for sure and perhaps Schilling's plane as well My personal favorite would be Col. Harold Comstock's mount (also a 56th FG scheme) as that particular pilot is a friend of mine

Is he related to the Comstock of NSA fame?

TKO211 seems to suggest that 21st Century may release a new 1/18 P-47 this year.
If so, will it be the same 1/18 P-47 as before including its defects (missing antenna and gunsight)?
Or will 21st Century release a NEW-MOLD P-47?
Any educated guesses?

I don't know about an educated guess, but my dumb guess would be that it will probably be a rehash of the same old mold. I would imagine that in these uncertain economic times, 21C is looking to get as many miles as possible out of the molds they have already paid for......... if in fact there is to be a new/repainted P-47 released at all.

Dragon---I highly doubt there will be any modifications made to the mold. To add a gunsight would be cost prohibative in my estimation. Other than the screw covers on the later TBMs, I don't think 21st has ever modified a mold.


As far as a reissue of the Spit goes, don't you think something is rotten in Denmark? 21st has to have seen the prices realized on eBay. There has to be something going on behind the scenes that has held up any repaints. They haven't done any repaints since the initial productions. Like I said, there is more than meets the eye here.

Anything in the field-applied camo version of the 56th would be nice, and Gabby's would be the 1st preference to go along side the signed photo from some years back.

Frankly, I think the alleged gunsight/antenna issues are meaningless for about 99% of potential buyers.

If you want 100% accuracy and a provenance to back it up you need to move up several levels into the non-toy display product realm.

Not sure on that one, but if you type his name into Google, several decent biographies pop up. Certainly not the most decorated pilot in the ETO, but he was an ace in the 56th FG. He later flew F-100s in Vietnam and I believe Hobbymaster is making a 1:72 scale version of his jet. There was also a 1:48 scale prepainted P-47D kit made by Revell. The box info - according to Comstock himself - misattributed the plane to Zemke, even though Comstock flew that particular plane and his noseart "Happy Warrior" was on it

21st Century did a new mold for the P-51, which obviously had accuracy problems.

Why not do a new mold for a new 1/18 P-47---no antenna or gunsight is a BIG accuracy problem. There is a credibility/accuracy issue at stake here. I hope 21st Century is up to it---if they are releasing a new P-47.

Also, when I was a kid, Monogram released a 1/48 Gabreski P-47D, but I never found it in the stores, so I'm hopeful 21st will release a Gabreski P-47D---with an antenna and gunsight.

Very true, however both P-47 types are FAR more accurate to the actual plane than the 21c first-series P-51s ever were. Sure they have their glaring mistakes: oversized cockpits & canopies, missing gunsights, missing antennas, tabs on the landing gear doors, etc. but its not nearly as bad as the S1 P-51s or even the P-40. 21c had to do the P-51 retooling literally to save face with its competitors and because it is one of the most classic and recognizable planes from WWII. The P-47 is a different story as 21c is the only company to have made one and collectors and history buffs aside, it is not as well known as the Mustang.

In that case I wouldn't mind a P-47 repaint, especially if it was a 56th FG plane

If 21st is too lazy and/or cheap to do a new mold for the P-47, I suggest it simply include an antenna and gunsight as separate pieces, so the buyer can glue the 2 missing parts to the P-47 just like in a plastic model kit. That is a cheap, cost-effective solution---and better than a P-47 without an antenna.
That way, it's a win/win situation for 21st and the consumers.

Agreed, dragon! Heck, even BBI does it to an extent when they included the extra cannon barrels with their Corsairs. 21c even sort of did that in the past with the spare "soft" antenna for the F-104s.

The parts can be customized, though

This one would really look gorgeous in 1/18.

Flogging a 1/18 dead horse----the 1/32 P-47 "Tarheel Hal" comes with an antenna.
