small scale 1/18 RAFALE or TYPHOON

Post by supersonicfifi » Tue Feb 12, 2008 4:03 pm

Hello to all !

Since the vast majority of the boardmember are American i would like to know if any of you would be intersted in some European models in our favorite scale

theses models are great as a French i would like to see a RAFALE above all to complete my F16 and F18 collection :

Dassault RAFALE

EADS eurofighter TYPHOON

i am starting a lobbying to all the brands to start to look across the pond !

Hey Supersonicfifi. I am not a big fan of modern jets. I have only the F-16. Now if we get the WW2 Typhoon that would be great!
Now I would like to see a A-10 or Phantam and the Mig -21. :D
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

I really like the Eurofighter Typhoon. That would be one awesome model.

I like both fighters tremendously but I would like to see an A-10 or F-15 first.

good ol´Europe

Post by supersonicfifi » Tue Feb 12, 2008 4:26 pm

i think the weel known brand wil take care of theses models (any fool in marketing should see the potential of an F 14 "top gun" , an A10 or a F15) but what about a new brand coming from Europe with of course European models ?

There s a whole slew of european Jet and WWII aircraft I would like to see made, but not at this time....and not before we get a 1/18th F-4 or an F-14.
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Let me hear your guns!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: My what?
Colonel "Madman" Maddox: Your guns! Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack!
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: [fires his airplane's guns] AHHHH!

I am down for darn near any airplane in 1/18. I figure if they make it, I will buy it. That being said my preference would be to see our promised F-4 and B-25 first. An A-10 would by mighty fine too! 8)

europe maker

Post by supersonicfifi » Wed Feb 13, 2008 2:41 am

would you buy from Europe ? because the price will be more expensive (the difference between Euro vs Dollar is in our advantage now !)

Funny you should mention the exchange rate. I noticed last night that some European model ship kit manufacturers are now offering two pricing schedules. One for European buyers, and the other for buyers from the rest of the world. Prices for the latter are not only VAT free, but are actually a good bit cheaper.

I imagine the US and other non-European countries make up a good bit of these companies sales, thus the effort to take a bit of the sting out of the exchange rate imbalance.

I wouldn't mind having either in 1/18. However, as others have already said, I'd rather have an A-10 in 1/18 scale before either.
Go Ugly Early in 1/18!!

Still waiting and wishing for a 1/18 A-10 Warthog.

RAFALE

Post by supersonicfifi » Wed Feb 13, 2008 12:02 pm

Wouldn t be awesome to see an opertaionnal RAFALE in 1/18 (fully loaded and in operation in AFGHANISTAN !)

here is the future OPERATIONNAL load as quoted in combat aircraft magazine :

http://www.ianallanpublishing.com/produ ... t=0&page=2

2 mica IR at the wingtip 2 rockets pods at the exteriors pylon of the wings , 3 modular AASM ( kind of JDAM) at the middle left pylon and 3 GBU 12 at the middle right pylon, 2 x 500 gallons drop tanks at the inners pylons, 2 Mica missiles ER under the rear fuselage, a damocles pod (kind of LANTIRN pod) at the forward intake position and last but not least a GBU 24 laser bomb at the centerline !!!!!!!! can you imagine the sight !!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that a Rafale or a Typhoon would be awesome in 1/18. Both are planes that Europe should be very proud of. The French were leaders in aviation around WWI, and its great to see their aircraft industry come back with top notch efforts like the Rafale. Even at the start of WWII, they had good fighters like the Dewoitine D.520, which had France not fallen, could have proved to be a real asset to the allies. I'm sure occupation cut short what would have been some great war-time French aviation advancements.

And as the US gets bogged down in budget constraints and long delays over planes like the F-22 and F-35, Europe has been steadily turning out some real winners, that are certainly a match for our ageing F-15s, F-16s, and F-18s.

Another great European jet I'd love to see in 1/18 is the Saab Gripen!!! Sweden, for such a small country, always amazes me at the high quality military hardware they turn out.

Bureaufighter first, with Rafale hot on its tail.

Of course, if we get the fixed-wing stuff then we need some European helis to go with them... how about the Gazelle, Lynx and Tiger to start with, the Puma, A109 Koala and MBB Bo.105 for "fun" value and then the Super Frelon as it is still the only helicopter in the world that regularly makes a habit of landing troops in the water (as against dropping them 8) )...

On a slightly related note, rumor has it that a pair of RAF Typhoons were quietly minding their own business on a familiarisation flight somewhere over the UK when a couple of USAF F15-C's decided it would be a laugh to use the Typhoons for target practice. Since they were all in military airspace, the RAF crews decided to play along... it would be fair to say the Charlie drivers were not best pleased to have their butts kicked by a pair of "untried" jets flown by relatively inexperienced aircrew who had not really planned on getting into any dogfights, but apparently only the USAF laundry chief knows for sure. :P :P
(The source for the rumor is supposed to be a farmer who regularly rings the local RAF station to complain the jets have been bothering his sheep...)
