I have one of these and both of the Koengs. When I got it I thought ,ehhh.. It is OK but after getting it I really thought that it was not worth the money. But I still have it.

I have the Whitman's 007.

What did you not like about it ?

I don't know . With the all steele wheels it just looked so much like the 21st Tiger at 10 times the price. It is big and heavy with good detail but kind of anti climatic. I know that is regarded as his death ride but there is some debate about the model . I have a couple of sources saying that it should have been with a little earlier year with rubber wheels. Historicaly correct or not . I think it would have been cooler with the rubber wheels.

Isn't this the tank that came in the wooden crate?

When it came out I loved the detail, just didn't go for another scale because there was nobody making 1/16 guys to go with it.

Is there anyone making support troops in 1/16 now? I remember seeing detail pics of this FOV Tiger, and loved it. Not enough to pay so much for it when we have a 21C Tiger with an interior for what? almost a tenth of the cost?

The FOV Extreme Metal series is simply the industry standard for a pre painted and assembled 1/16 Tiger.

And the new FOV bravo 1/18 series Tiger 1,
(with just a bit of custom work) is the new benchmark for a 1/18 scale Tiger 1,

The Tiger IIs were in the wooden crate. The Wittman came in cardboard.

Yes I am . The Wittmans is ehh...... In my opion. The Tiger IIs are to die for .

But the 21st Tiger has only the tenth of detail and accuracy.

And I dunno whether the FOV 1/16 Tiger is the end-all-be-all when it comes to the pre-painted 1/16 Tiger arena...The new WSN 1/16 RC Tigers look pretty good, almost as good as Tamiya's.

But considering that there are plenty of pics of the Tiger's 007's wreck, I think it's pretty conclusive that 007 is a Late model Tiger.

The only picks I have seen is the turret upside down showing the basket. I have a European Militaria Magazine with the guy who took the pics of Wittman's death ride and he even has one of the wheels from the wreck. It is rubber.
Of course debate is everywere. Gaby Gabreski's P-47 HV-A Was the bottom grey or natural aluminum. The UK 's tanks in Africa did they really have the light blue color in them? Or were they DK green and sand?

But all of this aside. I would have rather of had one of Wittman's earlier versions with the rubber wheels.

Ah! The Mid vs Late debate. I love those.

I don't doubt that Serge Varin (the French Farmer who took the pic) has in his possession, a rubber-rimmed Tiger road wheel. But just because he took one off the field of battle doesn't mean it came from Wittmann's Tiger.

Bear in mind that there at least a couple of Mid Tigers knocked out in the area where Wittmann was killed. And Monsiuer Varin took that pic in March 1945, 7 months after the battle.

And really, would he know what version of Tiger from another? I doubt it. My guess is that he found a Tiger wheel in the area where Wittmann was killed, and thought, "Hey, this must belong to Wittmann".

But that's all conjecture, so I guess I'll just go with the pic for evidence.


ITEM B clearly show the sprockets from the back of the vehicle. You cannot see the sprockets from behind if it's a Mid Tiger, since the overlapping roadwheels would have hidden it.

But let's say that for some weird reason, The 101st didn't bother putting the outer roadwheels before going to battle (HIGHLY UNLIKELY), so this isn't as conclusive.

BUT.

If you look at ITEM A, you will see a oval cover in the bottom of the left exhaust stack. That is the cover for the blow torch port, which was only introduced in the Late model Tigers.

There are a lot of ways to identify and differentiate Early/Mid/Late/Final models of Tigers.

*EDIT* Oh I forgot to mention that Monsieur Varin has also been quoted in the past that Wittmann's 007 didn't have any camo, just overall dark yellow. But as you can see from his own pictures, 007 is definitely camo'ed.

I would also like to see a Wittman's tiger 1 with the rubber road wheels
Along with other armored vehicles that Wittman's either commanded or was associated in some way.

I think these would be cool and nice to have in the FOV 1/16th Series

Wittmann's Tiger S04, December 1943. Not the base dark yellow colour painted over with winter camouflage whitewash. The markings on the 88mm gun signify the 88 victims that Wittmann had claimed up to the time of his being awarded the Knight's Cross in January 1944.

Wittmann's first operational Tiger I, Russia 1943. This vehicle was used during Operation Zitadelle which took place in and around the Ukrainian city of Kursk. Note the summer camoflage pattern and the turret number 1331.

Me too, that why I've been hunting for FOV's 1:18th Tiger I at local Targets. Oh....and no luck.

I don't own any 1/18 Panthers, but I don't believe Barkman's has been done, has it? Sorry, I know I am highjacking the Tiger thread but hey, they are all from the cat family, right?

I.ve got the 222, I picked it up at a Toy fair MiB for half the list price.Its a great model, I don't know that I would pay the full price for it though. I have the King Tiger too, the inteior detal makes it a real masterpiece. Big mistake as well, its a second company tank yet the markings on the fornt plate are for a fisrst coy vehicle.
