21C King Tiger discussion
21C King Tiger discussion
Ok guys- I have just a couple minor updates on the 1:18 King Tiger today. I have to be just a little bit careful here because I can't betray the official updates that will be made thru AREA-21 in the coming weeks... But that said, I think about my friends here on the forum and I know how much you guys love to get info a little bit early so I will try to tell you some of what I most recently learned about the KT!
21C was in China last week for Toyfair or some big toy show... I spoke to members of 21C management in regards to the show. One specific point of interest at that show was the King Tiger. The story goes like this... The V.P. saw a 1:18 King Tiger on display and was totally shocked by it's overall mass and impressive size! The question was asked, "is this thing the real deal or a model master or what!" -The reply came back that it was the actual product and that it was all but pretty much finished, with only a few minor tweeks to some detials that were not shown on the sample.
The V.P. told me that it was better than expected seeing it in person. I also recently learned that a new size box was required & art was being put together for it's initial release. It remains to be seen if this points to a special edition box art or if it simply means the signal of the final mass retail box. But it does indicate that if the box is being ordered up than the tank is quite close to it's final release.
I hope to get more info and hopefully more pictures for AREA-21 in the weeks to come. I just thought you guys might like to get that little bit of news ouside of the norm.

Thank you for the update TKO.
As I said before, there are details on this new 21st Century release that are sadly missing from my 1/16 FOV extreme metal KT.
Well done!

The sign of a great model is that one’s eye is not drawn to any one feature, yet one can study it for hours and continually find something new.

Keep in mind, the Extreme Metal King Tiger as cool as it is, was FOV's first venture into big scale and as we have seen with the latest 1/16 Wittmann Tiger 1's and soon the 1/16 Sherman, details have become much sharper.
But between the two from the early photos from 21st Century, the Mg mount is much better, the front mud flaps are correct in scale and not "over weathered" as are also the side skirts, the hinges on the rear turret hatch are correct and detailed (not so on FOV) and 21st century has the left side track cable, and the tools look less toy like.
The fixes so far that I see needed on the 21st (hatch handles, headlight cable, etc) will be a breeze....
also if you go back and look at the old pics from 21st century you can see the engine hatch has working hinges...could there be Maybach in there????

Was the show the "Hong Kong Toys & Games For 2008" show?
Had a report of the disapointing showing of 1/6 by other manufacturers at the show, I'm suprised they didn't notice the KT. Even guys from the "Dark Side" notice nice 1/18.
Looking forward to the KT.
Will the fact that the box is oversized for 1/18 be a hinder for 21C's brick & mortar stores?
Sure wish 21C would experiment and crank up the "21C Store" with this bad boy and sell to us direct.

I was thinking about doing that too, but I'm horrible when it comes to putty...Yoxford wrote:GooglyDoogly hit that one!
dremmel down the rear mud flaps....and thicken up the rear tow ears with sqadron putty
Maybe I can find a plastruct with the proper thickness and trace the shape and cut it.
The part of the hull sides that protrudes at the rear needs to be thickened too. It makes the Tiger II look like it has paper-thin armor.

Re: [+] Königstiger Update [+]
I don't think that's the actual 1/18 King Tiger. It's probably a 1/35 model kit to show their paint master, or something.MG-42 wrote:[+] > ... and here's just a pic for reference. *

Because it would be AWESOME if the actual product actually looks like that.MG-42 wrote:[+] > ........... so ?

Back in the day, I get excited every time 21st releases a "completed" pic of a certain product, and was always dazzled by the details and accuracy.
Then I buy the actual product and I get a little bit disappointed that they showed me a highly-detailed master, and not the actual product they are producing.
That's why I love the old 21st progress pics of their King Tiger. At least I know that's what I'm actually gonna be getting.
