Anyone notice the two small differences between the first 21C FW-190D(redbelly) and the second (spotted camo)?
I mean structural differences, not paint scheme.

The only difference I seen is that the red 3 has antenna on the belly and the tail wheel wont stay down on the red 3 also. They are both in 21st boxs.

If you are missing the belly antenna on your chevron 190 take a look at the top of the joystick hand grip, as these items are sprued together as a common piece, mine was still attached to the joystick, it was not so hard getting the joystick out but was a bit of a bugger getting it back in.
The canopies are different in that the chevron version has the later shrouded type while red 3 has the rail version, not noticed anything else yet but.

Whats this about the belly antenna for the XD FW-190D-9? I thought that was the control stick! I also noted the addition of the shrouded canopy on the Black Cheveron FW-190. Thats a nice little touch to make the planes physically differen, besides the paintscheme. On another note, has anyone noticed how there are holes where some of the flight instruments should be and the fact that the instruments are not painted? Any ideas for that feature?

G'day tmanthegreat
Unlike UK types the joystick on German single engine fighters use the pistol grip variety of joystick head.
I pulled my joystick out to separate to two parts and it's definitely the loop antenna just looks like someone on the production line forgot to separate the two items for the chevron versions of the Fw190Ds. If you have a Red 3 you can clearly see the tear on the top of joystick head where the items were separated.

I saw the ring on the joystick and broke it off and threw it out. Later i made a circular antanae for the belly out of an item from my spares box. Never occurred to me the piece i just threw out was the antanae!

Well this is pretty funny! I never knew about the belly antenna. I'll have to check my joystick, hehehehehehe
Very interesting find.

You guys are very observant. The two differences I had in mind were the roll-over bar shroud in the 2nd '190 (which somebody mentioned), and the small antenna stub on top of the latter's canopy.
Neither of my versions have the belly antenna people are mentioning (you don't mean the retractable step behind the port wing, do you?).
Books I have indicate the roll-over bar shroud was introduced about halfway through the production run of the FW-190-D9, and also appeared on some late model FW-190Fs.

donnieboy,
If you look at the yoke in the cockpit of the 190's, you should notice the large loop on top of it. That is the antenna they are talking about......
We're not referring to the ladder.........

Son-of-a-gun! You're right, Teamski!
Who woulda thunk it? I never would have thought to look in the cockpit for the belly antenna. Thanks for the heads up!

Absolutely!!
Check out the picture of the installed antenna in the Miscellanious Folder. Just click the website button..............
I'm not sure if more of the "tab" on the loop should of been cut off, but it looks fine to me. You will have to use super glue to keep it in the slot...........

It was my understanding that the instruments were supposed to be clear plastic inserts with the backsides painted. I don't know where I heard this, but that's what I remember...........

actually the loop should just be a loop, no tab on it at all. It then slots in the little groove on the tiny bulge in the underside of the fuselage...

immeww2 did a recon at the Pleasanton, CA W-M today and mentioned that there were 2 FW-190's that he could not identify. I took a look and am wondering if this is a new livery, or if I've missed this paint scheme:
-fuselage: dash & #12
-s/n on tail is 500570
-overall paint coloring is similar to the black chevron, but overall is darker, but has some lighter green on the nose and also has brown on the upper fuselage.
Is this a new paint scheme?
I have to say, though, that I'm not impressed with the paint job. Too much overspray for me to justify a purchase.

This is a new paintscheme, "Blue 12," I think its referred as. It hasn't had any good reviews (yours included!) in regards to the paintjob and quality control, as with the P-47s and Panzer IVs 21st has also currently released.

It came out a few weeks ago. A lot of the 190s look similar to me, but that maybe because they are, or because I don't know jack about 190s.....likely the latter....

Boy, vulgarvulture, you really did some digging to find this old thread....good on ya'.
Why 'blue 12' is actually a black 12 i don't know...has this been explained and i just missed it?
Anyway, it may look similar in the box but the underside has an interesting, very patchy paint job which accurately reflects this late war machine. Too bad this was afflicted with the quality control probs that have bothered the other recent releases..
