Small Scale Military Headquarters

I came across this web site through 21st Centurys link. I'm glad there are more people like me that get excited over the 1/18 I've been buying the XD for 3yrs now and just started getting some BBIs. My main passion is WWII and all military airplanes, but I also could'nt pass up the more popular modern vehicles.

Hey Anthony, Welcome and great collection you have there I really like the lighting you have set up over your stuff. Gives it that whole museum feel. Great bunch of folks here and we are always willing to lend each other a hand...

Nice looking display. You've done pretty much the same thing i have.....only yours is better. The lights are a nice touch. I made my shelves lower so that i had more 'air space' above them to hang planes. As a result i have fewer shelves and they are a bit more crammed together.

I did have all that in one of the bedrooms, but last year when I found out my wife was pregnant and was due in Nov. I knew we needed a babys room. So that was motivation to get the basement done. Which opened up alot more space.

That is so beautiful it makes me want to cry--you are my inspiration man!
No kidding, nice set up I am envious of the space. Though as a word of caution--don't leave your flag hanging for more than 2 months at a stretch. It will make the fabric dederiorate quicker. Alternate it with being displayed flat and it will preserve the artifact for a longer period of time.

I really like your set up. All of my XD planes are on the floor lined up against a wall in the family room. I need shelves like yours. Where did you get them?

Who made the Camel? I'd love to see some XD WWI planes...but I won't hold my breath.

Here are a couple of shots of the bottom planes. The WWIs & Wright Bros. are Lego kits ,heres the link http://shop.lego.com/leaf.asp?cn=57&d=14&t=7. (I even have the Star Destroyer) As for the Mustang, its a genaric of Legos called Megablocks. I got that at ToysRUs.



As for the shelfs I got them at Lowes. They are plastic and are 36"L and 18"D, its the biggest you can get. They are around $30. Then you have to buy some 1/8" compressed board and cut them to fit in the shelves cause they are "egg grated" and the wheels will fall in the openings. As for the lights, they are from HomeDepot and are the Under the Cabnet lights. They run $20 for a set of 3. I ran the cords through the the hollow tubes of the shelves. Nice thing about the whole setup is that you can pick up the whole shelf assembly(empty) and move them where ever. Probably weighs no more then 20-30lbs.
