It is the brass tube running through the wing that gives it rigidity .

It is the tube that goes into the main body securing the wing to the main body.

Received mine today, and all I can say is...WOW!!!!! , AMAZING!!!!, INCREDIBLE!!!!.

This bird is a thing of total beauty!!!! I just cant beleive the quality and detail!! I'm too scared to put the landing gear and accessories on yet. I just want to admire it with its wings on for now.

Well, my Horten would have come today and I would be typing about how cool it is, but the postman didn't want to leave it on the front porch while I wasn't home, so I have one of those little "missed delivery" tickets instead

Ah well, minor annoyance only and it gives me time to prep the display space for it. The model will be at the post office tomorrow when I go to pick it up. Friday is always a good day to get new stuff

Picked up my Horten and had just enough time to run it home, open the package, and inspect the model. It arrived safely and nothing was broken or damaged

I haven't done the assembly yet, but from what I see with the parts, this model is simply fantastic. The paint work is perfect - as good as my 21c models and I can't believe the markings are decals! Through the canopy (haven't tried it yet) the cockpit is very well detailed right down to the instrument panel and even a little scuff weathering.

I'll see how this goes together tonight, but for now, hats off to Pickelhaube for the amazing work. Totally worth the price and the wait

And he is a armor guys!! So I felt he should get the first one.

TKO got #2 . I need to get the brown nose points any way I can.

So far I have one guy interested in the S-2 and he is off the board.

I want to say that I had #4 - I saw the number printed on various parts and bags, so I guess that's the one I got

Here's a picture of the assembled model with my 21c ME-262:

(Haven't had time to do the diorama photos yet, though as CW4USARMY showed above, this model will be one to do them with )

Anyways, it went together really well. The wings slid on and are sturdy. The guns and antennas attached perfectly and don't even need glue. Canopy was a bit stiff, but after a couple times opening and closing, it functions much better now. The nose wheel assembled fine.

The only difficulty I had was with the main gears. The struts went in fine (though first I had the wheels facing inside instead of out) but it was tricky getting the pushrods to attach. Some were fitting a little too tightly and I managed to break one of the smaller rods that connects the main (large) pushrod to the strut. It was easy to repair, though. Then I filed out the little holes with a 1/8" drill bit and sanded off the wire pieces so everything went on more smoothly.

The plane feels stable on its gears and I'm not worried (yet) about anything snapping like on the JSI F-14

This is a really amazing piece of work, no way to put it otherwise. What got me was all the little details - something that lacked on Pickelhaube’s earlier pieces. The tires have treads on them, the fuselage paneling and riveting look professional, and I love the details on the engine turbofans. The cockpit is fantastic as well - heck, there are other 1:18 planes with less detail. The instrument decals worked perfectly to give painted and identifiable instruments and the seat and framing are well done, and the control stick even moves!

I also really like the working landing gear doors and the nose wheel doors (which are hinged in a manner similar to the 21c P-38 nose wheel door) are better than what I expected.

The cockpit is tiny - I could fit a 21c Stuka pilot in there by removing the boots, but currently I have an FW-190D pilot, which fit in perfectly without modification (and really looks better as the figure is in a late-war flight suit with parachute straps and all.

I am also very much impressed with the paint work. Personally, I could not have asked for a better look for a Horten 229. I am very glad Pickelhaube built this, as he could certainly paint and detail it far better than I ever could. As you can see in my picture, it goes very well with the 21c ME-262 and the paint work looks just as good.



Again, this model was certainly worth the price and the wait. I am very glad I “bit the bullet” and got the full build option.

Hey Stars,

I am glad you like it !!

You are going to have to unscrew the bottom piece first then you will see the screw.

I used "90" instead of "9" so I would not get mixed up with 6 . To make sure I marked "6" as "6X"

All you guy's set ups look nice.

T-man sorry about the part snapping. But those parts need to be tight or they will fall off and you would probably never find them.

I am really glad you guys are liking them. I have painted several models before . They were solid balsa planes I made for my son when he was a baby.

That was about 20 years ago. So I have not picked up an airbrush since then. So I was actually scared about how they were going to turn out.

I guess using an airbrush is kind of like riding a bike. Once you got it you got it.

So maybe I can get that box punched in on my modeler's card.
