But are you willing to mock dogfight an F-16?KAGNEW wrote:IT served in Italy from 1965 till 2006, Greece 1966 till 2000, Japan 1966 till 2000. on & on it was the First plane that could do Super Cruise that they are blowing about on F-22, the Only plane to hold altitude and speed record at same time. the only fighter to stay in front line service longer in world is the F-4 Phantom. the F-104 was taken out of service in USAF because generals wanted fighters that carried nukes.![]()
when we go to airshows the F-16, F-15, F-18 pilots know that our 50 year old fighter can still go faster then they can.
Speed ain't everything.
All in all, it's mission is to shoot down planes, not to race other planes.
And I won't even touch the controversy how so many NATO countries got the F-104. Let's just say it's not primarily because of it capabilities.
But you guys are right...it's sure is purty.

It certainly didn't help the F-104s combat record.

I agree wholeheartily[/quote]
The F-104 was first developed in March of 1954. Whereas the YF-16 was developed in 1974! That's a 20 year gap.... truly a new generation of aircraft. To critique the characteristics of the F-104 to the F-16 is comparable to pitting a Spad S. VII against a NA-73X (P-51). Let us put this in perspective...

well i still think the F-104 is one of the best 21st releases so far
and the way it sells i think a lot of people agree with me
also from Florida to Canada on the east coast of US if you hear lots of jet noise from March to November, look up you may see history in the making.

Yes! That is exactly what I am thinking right now.immeww2 wrote:What with all these new and BIG surprises in aircraft being announced, something new and BIG should also be appearing fo the armor division besides the King Tiger.
I never liked the razorback P-47s either. Ugly things. Never was fond of the early model Mustangs either. They just didn't have the sleek "sports car" look like the bubble canopy models.

Ok here it is, I like most aircraft and would support any ones favorite military A/C even the F-5…All you World War II guys and all of you modern airpowers guys, I am in your boat, I love all military aircraft, including WWI birds.
So lets all get along, I want the A-10 and C-47 as much as the next guy and I hope both are made I just hope to see the A-10 made before the C-47.
