I do like that Hartman F-86. Did they ever make it for the American market ?

As I remember it was sold in Europe only.

I don't think the Hartman F-86 was ever released in Europe.

If you go back through Aviatornut's Facebook page, he has some knowledge of what the new 1/18 jet will be. He made the comment that it is a "some what" modern jet. That would rule out the F-22.

Doesn't rule out an F-15 though.

We will see at some point though.

Btw, The F-15 in the photos they took show two seats. If he had suggested a single seat with twin exhausts then that would lead us to believe the A-10 could be the one after all. Talking about a dead giveaway. lol

I think from a marketing standpoint, the F-4 would be the way to go. The phantom has a very long history. There are many different paint schemes that would allow re-issues. Think about navy paint schemes from Vietnam. VF-111 Sundowners was an awesome scheme. Duke cunningham's jet was a nice looking ride. Thunderbirds, Blue Angles, Steve Ritche, etc. Many different country's flew it thus creating an international market for the release.

What do you guys think?

If it was the F-105, I'd buy 4, and I hardly buy new release 1/32nd and up..

Hoping it's at least a "somewhat modern" 80's build.
F-5, F-15, F-111, A6, F-8.. A-10, Harrier... lol

Jim@Merit confirmed that it's a single seater. When asked single or twin engines, he said it's a dead giveaway. What single seaters qualify?
Commercially profitable 1/18 single seater: A-4,F-5,MiG-21,A-10,F-15C,MiG-29,Su-27(sorry,making F-8 or F-105 is a suicide now if it takes that long to sell all F-14s)
Had it been twin engines,there are too many options. My money is on either A-4 or MiG-21, and the latter is more exciting.

I vaguely remember there being some rumors coming out of china that an F-5 might be in the works for 1:18 scale. It's been a few years since I heard that but I now wonder if there is any connection. From a production cost standpoint the F-5 would be a nice little project- It's small, not complicated, would require fewer moving parts.

TKO, I like the F-5 idea. Hobbymaster makes a great little 1:72 scale version of the F-5E Tiger II that shows what could be done with the plane. With only changes to the paint scheme and minor adjustments to the tooling, HobbyMaster stretched it over different variants (P/R, bomber, fighter) and markings from a variety of nations that flew the plane. The US didn't use many F-5s outside of training and demonstration purposes, but it is a cool little aircraft with international appeal!

Harrier....?

A Harrier would be neat and a space saver.

Since Jim hasn't said anything about it being previously shown other then a "all new tooling" a Harrier jet would be in this case fair game. Its also a twin exhaust and somewhat modern dating back to the early 1980's. If the single seat theory holds true then the Harrier would certainly make the top of the list of potential candidates to become the next 1:18 jet release. I would love to add a VTOL to my collection. And thanks to a film back in the 90's, "True Lies" its sort of now a film cult icon.

So, single seat, fairly modern eh? I'm really stoked about the F-5 if that truly will be the release. It's such a beautiful and elegant design. A very appealing aircraft. An A-4 would be nice choice too (with lots of repaint potential) but it's nowhere near as appealing as the Tiger II.

I'm dreaming of a VFC-111 Sundowners F-5 right now....

Well the convention in Atlanta starts tomorrow so maybe then we'll finally get to hear something from Merit on the new releases.

Any word on what this new plane might be yet?
