Only time will tell what color scheme will get.

Apparently no body wants an 88 in DAK tan….What if it’s the only 88 we get????????
Not quite so on the "not releasing it" part. If 21c really is about to fold, it would not make sense to release anything for the moment, no matter the color or the item. The greater priority would be to get their finances in order and that could be accomplished by pushing out projects in the pipeline as well as with repaints of existing products. My logic is that if 21c releases the 88, doesn't get their finances in order, and the 88 doesn't sell well, then 21c will be even further "in the hole" than if they had not released it. That is not to say I do not want them to release the 88, I do

As for the other part, if the 88 was released only in DAK tan and never again in any other color, I would probably get it. I agree with Aferg that it would be a big mistake for 21c to do their initial release for the 88 in DAK tan, all things considered, and I would hesitate to get one if I knew for certain another paintscheme was on the horizon. However, if the DAK tan version is all we get, then I'll purchase one more readily.

I wonder if this thread will still be active next year when we are still waiting for the release, grey hopefully, otherwise tan or pink, as long as we get one or in my case mutiples before I die.

Besides, I'm real happy with 21c's PaK 40 so it's not going to 1/6 and I'm hoping that their '88 will be just as nice. Also I'm still reserving room for it, not going to 1/6 will leave me with more room yet.

I don't know why people are so against a dark yellow 88....heck, if you think about it, the only gray German armor pieces 21st released were the gray Tiger, the kubelwagen, and the PaK 40. (And the gray Tiger was a really bad, historically inaccurate paint job anyway.) (I could be forgetting a piece, so correct me if I'm wrong.)

*edit* I just remembered the Panzer IV D/F1 in dark gray. SO that makes 4 XD German pieces in dark gray.

How many hanomag version are there in a gray base color? None. All except one (winter version), are dark yellow base with brown/green camo.

How many Panthers are there in Dark gray? Zero. So I don't agree with the reason that XD collectors won't pick up a dark yellow 88 because it won't "fit in" in their collection. It will certainly fit among the Panthers, Eastern front Tiger, camoflauged PaK 40, all the hanomags, etc. See what I mean?

And a dark yellow 88 doesn't necessarily mean its a DAK. The only way you can say its a DAK if it's has the Afrika Korps symbol on it.

Has it been confirmed that this 88 actually had those markings? Or did we just assumed it's a DAK because of a huge misconception that every dark yellow German military piece without a green/brown camo are Afrika Korps-related?

A whole lot of 88s in dark yellow base coat were used in the Eastern AND Western front. Even up to the end of the war.

Heck, even if it has DAK markings, how hard is it to paint over the markings with irregular stripes of green and brown and make it look like the camo PaK 40? And there you have it! A camo'ed 88 that would be perfect in the Eastern, Western, and Mediterranian front! :D

Do we need to take a deep breath, join hands and sing Kumbyah? :P

For the love of God, we really need some new releases before eyes are put out here!

For those interested:

I've been checking around on the 1/6 "88" and the site shown (Cal-Tec) is not strictly DID and the "88" shown is by some unknown (at least for now) Chinese (who else?) small metal fabricator. It may be the same guys that did an awesome 1/6 Opel Blitz and are now making Panzer III's, everything metal. These guys are just great.

Even though Cal-Tec did sell me my DID Sdkfz 251, we all thought Cal-Tec was connected with DID, maybe not.....

Selling price on the "88" is not set and should be in the $800-$1,000 range.

At around $800, it will be a sellout. Prototype was around 50 pounds so it is sure not a lightweight. There are two other "88"'s around and they run from $650-$850 but are light and need alot of work while assembling. This Cal-Tec is metal and looks great out of the box.

We 1/6 guys will see. Kind of makes a possible 1/18 21C "88" for $150 look like a steal....

Man I skipped the last 2 pages of reading because of all the this color vs. that color  I will still buy the 6 I want and paint 'em  DAK would offer one of the three tri color paints, so I just need to paint 2 colors :) It may not be the correct shade, but after weathering it, who'll notice the difference :? If I want gray, there is a Floquil gray spray paint - does a nice job too :P So F- the color coming out, just paint it or get a good painter friend to paint it for you. Just be glad it will come out. If we complain too much, we may never see it :( So after I get the 6 and they do a tri-color or dark gray, I'll get more. Like there's plenty of green allied tank meat out there for the 88s to feed on  :P Let's not forget all them allied planes flyin' around like angery bugs too :P Let the 88s come in what ever color but not pink please, pink makes me angry   Then it'll time for a feeding frenzy 8) Da General

if you'd read the whole thread you guys would see that the point was, and still is, it's not a matter of being happy with whatever we get. It's a matter of, if 21c releases the wrong paint scheme first (ie the DAK) sales could well suffer and there most probably will not be a subsequent release in another colour. 21c is most probably hanging by a thread and a poor choice in colour for the initial release could mean sluggish sales and lower sales numbers and that could prove terminal. However, i think they are more than smart enough to realize all this and will make a good choice.

And while our comments are hopefully being read and having some influence on 21c, there is no way that debating the colour choice is going to affect their decision, or ability, to release it at all, regardless of colour. I suspect the only thing preventing them from releasing it and the KT is having the money to pay for the production run in China. With a long stretch of little income and credit being tight right now, they may not be able to come up with the money. They have to know that the 88 will be fantastically popular, both amongst us and the 1/16 crowd who will gobble them up in droves. The KT will also be very popular amongst the 1/18 crowd. If they can make enough of them, in time, the KT and 88 will be their two best selling pieces of 1/18 armour...

My prediction as to a all time best seller team for 21C would be a KT, a "88" and one of those monster half-track to pull the "88" and if you remember, the Tigers used the big half-tracks in pairs to tow damaged big tanks.

What a diorama, two big half-tracks towing a KT... WOW, my palms are sweating just thinking about..

Of course, I'm dreaming now.... we will be very lucky to see just the "88" and the KT, already in the pipeline........ we hope. we hope...

the big halftracks were FAMO's. HUGE vehicles. Although very similar in appearance, they were much bigger than the sdkfz 7 used to pull the 88.

I will be on cloud 9 if we ever get a sdkfz 7 (rumour has it that Dragon had/has a 1/18 prototype of a sdkfz 7). For pulling 88's and to convert to aa vehicles.

A FAMO is definitely a dream. If someone were to make a 1/15 sdkfz 7 it could be converted to a surrogate FAMO in 1/18. It'd be about the right size, just need to scale down some details like seats.
