Sorry...haven't been following this thread for awhile so this suggestion may be a bit late...or useful for future projects. I made a roto-cast frame similar to yours a couple of years ago. To turn the arm, we (I had help) adapted a used garage door opener with a computer cooling fan and a reduction gear that gave us about 4 rpm and worked very well. The guy it belonged to said something about a dimmer switch in-line to control the rpms better....sorry but I didn't do that mod with him. He has since moved to another state and I haven't had contact with him in some time. The roto-mold was used for 1/6th scale head sculptures and other 1/6th gear. Smaller and lighter molds, but I think it might work for you as well.

Yes there is !!!


All of the moulds have been made except the top of the center section.

That will be made either Wednesday or Thursday. I ran out of RTV.

There is a new supplier in town so I do not have to order it from Houston any more. It is a little cheaper and I do not have to wait for it to ship.

After this order of RTV I will have used 5 units of RTV. THAT IS 10 GALLONS WORTH OF RTV COSTING $900.

PRODUCTION SHOULD START THIS WEEKEND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


So you guys who have paid deposits only please go ahead and forward your balances.

I am thinking of posting pics for the directions. I am trying to use the Dragon's directions to fit my needs but it is not working out.

So I am thinking of posting pics as directions.

Let us see how that works out and if it does not I will make directions on paper.

Are you guys OK with this ?

That would probably be better.

Pics for directions sound like a good idea, looking a the actual pieces of the kit may be better than figuring out a drawing for some folks.

Putting pics up on the forum would be great. I'm sure you thought of this, but I would suggest making a new thread just for directions and build discussion.

Honestly, I would say here. This is in light of the discussion we've had previously about traffic rates in the "Post-Golden Age." It seems this forum is the more visited, and your Horten is THE "Cadillac" project for our hobby right now.

Pre-production has started.I have made the first pour .

The first pour is usually a throw away. When you do the first pour it is kind of an experiment. Are there enough air vents ? Do I have to make more and such. When making the moulds , one must use plenty of mould release and this gets sucked up by the first pour resin and the piece comes out some what soft.

The second pour normally is a keeper. So far so good and weather permitting production will start tomorrow.

I have learned my lesson. When the temp drops the resin must be brought inside the house as well as the moulds so they keep warm.

Of course Mrs. Spike has something to say about this , but with a non heated shop a mans got to do what a mans got to do. ( that is the famous Popeye quote )

Things are finally moving in the right direction.

Here's hoping your weather is sunny and 88 for the foreseeable future. or the duration of this project.....
Now everybody will be able to have their very own 1:18 Ho-229.............

Production has started. So far it is taking about 3 hours to pour one kit.

Except for the top of the center section.

My local supplier was out of RTV

I will try to calculate the amount of resin that is used per kit. It is a lot.

But ALL of the parts are coming out great. A few MINOR pin holes here or there but nothing big.

At this rate all the kits should make it for Christmas and you full build guys keep your fingers crossed.

The major road block for the full builds will be the weather.

Paint does not work well when the outside / inside temp is in the 40's - 50's .

That was your 1946 tax dollars at work

Just think after interest was lost all of those German secret weapons were buried in the dirt . ( I think it was in Indiana )

It was just a fluke that a General or other ranking officer liked the Horten so it was saved from the trash pile and shipped out to Maryland were it languished for decades .

Yea, all those potential luft 46 projects gone... And we never knew if they where real or not.
