POST BBI ZERO DISCUSSION HERE
Zero
I like the look of the BBI Zero. Great research and history, which is much of the enjoyment for me.
Also looking forward to the Avenger. Interesting, the Avenger's first combat action was during the battle of Midway was against the Model 21 Zeros. Unfortunately, the Avengers lost 5 out of 6 against the Zeros.
A good site that I discovered on the Zero is the following:
http://www.aviation-history.com/mitsubishi/zero.html
and another:

I mentioned above the Battle of Midway... see my other plea, request, etc. in another post today.

Ironiclly its very close to the grey color on the Mitsubishi Eclipse.aferguson wrote: It may be the picture or my imagination but it looks like it's not actually light grey but a very pale light green, which i believe is the current thinking that these early war japanese aircraft actually were.
There were color differences between the Mitzi built and Nakajima built Zero's
Theres lots of new info out in the last few years.
I think a new wing and cowl would replicate a Model 32 or 52.
So, who is gonna be first to build a custom "Rufe"?

Nice
Cool That's the kind of info I've come to expect form this boardOnWu wrote: According to James Broshot, folding wingtips were incorporated starting with Model 21 number 65 off the line.

Of course I ordered a zero. I'm glad that they did all the research and have produced something with historical significance. It makes it much more interesting. I like the idea that 21st will produce a different model of zero, as well.
On a different note, I think that 21st Century's Spitfire is tops along with the BBI Mustang & Corsair. The detail is really good and the the accuracy is right up there. Also, it just looks better than everything else. Kinda of like the F104....... oh and I like the F16, the F18, the stuka, the P38, FW-190, the thunderbolt .....
Seriously, the Spit does rule .....along with the Mustang & Corsair & F104 & P38 - Oh well, guess I can't make up my mind.
But the Spit Does rule!
Now where are the Zeros, Avengers.
Harriers........ a Typhoon would be rather welcome, not to mention a Mosquito.

I guess I'll have to get the 21st Spit DWK version because everyone I talk to says that its the best of the series. So this is the next one on deck next to the Zero. I held off on buying it because I had to have the bbi Corsair but not anymore.

I ordered 2 Zeros today.
Okay you say big deal?
I have never ordered from Badcats or any online retailer for XD Planes before. But got an email from them and took a good look at the Zero on their website. I was wondering about freight costs. Low and behold they were offering 2 for 1 shipping on the Zero! So, that made up my mind. 2 Zeros for 9.99 shipping FedEx - Oh YEAH!
Now I gotta sell a bunch of XD to pay for the planes...
So, how much do you think I can get for this signed Roy Sutherland P-51?

That Zero is going to be one heck of a plane. Glad I've ordered one as it seems BBI will give us a plane worthy of our years of patience!!
The cockpit feature is very cool and BBI seems to be taking a lesson from their 1:6 F-15 cockpit - but this time we get the whole plane! The overall look of the plane is great as well. Its a simple paintscheme, but when one thinks of the typical Japanese Zero, this is how its often envisioned. The pilot figure looks great as well, and has the sword and sidearm! The head, further, looks "Asian" (I was worried they'd just recycle another figure's head only with black hair.) Still one might consider swaping the head from the 21c Private Kudo (machine gunner) figure, as a Zero pilot would look cool with the flag wraped around his head
Can't wait for the middle of October - we've got one month left!
Now, as always, for the 21c Avenger...

Holy cowpies Batman! I think bbi has just kicked the competition up a notch. Granted I have not seen this plane in person, or the 104 or the Avenger prototype. But, from what I see here, this takes the cake thus far. I am amazed. Has Badcat sold out of pre-order yet? With this revelation I imagine they might. God bless capitalism and the compatition it inspires.

Holy....
GET THE F*&^ OUT OF TOWN.
Um, OK...that's what I'm talking about....
Um, OK...that's what I'm talking about....
Um, why would we buy the whole plane and then display the cockpit by itself Don't get me wrong it is a novel idea but how many times are you really going to take the wings off to get to the cockpit. My guess is that the only time that cockpit will be out of the A6M2 model 2(?) is when you put it together.
It is just that I would rather pay less for an airplane that doesn't have a function that doesn't make sense. The way it is just requires more molds, more tooling, more paint, more production time, which equates to more cost to the consumer.
I do approve of the detail and paint.
All said and done nice model.
