Post by pickelhaube » Wed Sep 15, 2010 4:31 pm

I started the mould making and am about 1/3 done with them.

Hopefully production will start next Monday.

One of my full builds really took a long time and I still am not finished with it :(

My hat is off to you guys who take the last steps to finish your models.

Re: 1/18 M-3 Tank Destroyer Moulds Started !!

Post by pickelhaube » Mon Sep 20, 2010 4:59 pm

All I need to do is make the moulds for the ready rounds and the whole mould making process will be done.

Then it is time to start casting.

I would say about $125 for the kit plus shipping.

Quite a few guys have asked me if I will build this one for them.

I think that I WILL !!!

SEND ME YOUR M-16 OR OTHER HALF TRACK AND I WILL BUILD THE 75-MM ON IT !!!!!

I am thinking $130 and it will be either GRAY PRIMER or DARK OD GREEN . Your choice. As long as you pick up shipping both ways.

So there you have it.

$ 125 for the kit plus shipping.

Additional $ 130 turn key built on you half track plus shipping.

I AM ACCEPTING ORDERS NOW !!!!!! :D :D :D

Re: 1/18 M-3 Tank Destroyer In Production !!!

Well guys the M-3 is a wrap ALL of the orders have been filled.

ALL OF THE FULL BUILDS ARE DONE AS WELL !!!

The tail end of this project I was suffering from " why can't anything be easy" syndrome.

These things should have gone out last Wensday. But I forgot to put in the stifining rods for the shield in the box.

I looked at my stock of styrene. Guess what ? I am out of the size I need .

No biggie I will just go down to the hobby shop and get more.

They were out to

Well it came in . I will punch a little hole in the box and insert the styrene rod.

There are a couple of things that you guys need to know when building this kit.

1. The roller under the " half moon " gear seems to be a tight fit.I had a heck of a time trying to fit the gun together.

It worked fine on the proto but is REAL TIGHT now . You guys may have to cut a little groove or trough in it so the gun can levatate. The roller is a small piece of white styrene in the tiny parts bag.

2. Be advised that the gun shield is assemetrical . The right side is wider than the left side.

When you measure to mount the shield , make sure you measure to the back of the shieled rather than the front.

I built the kit and forgot about this on a build.

So be careful.

I will try to take a few pics of one of the full builds and post them.

I have to work on my regular job today so these may not go out today. But they deffinatley will go out tomorrow. WITH THE STYRENE RODS INSERTED INTO THE BOXES.

I have wrapped them all up already without it

Just a few more days and you guys will have them :D :D :D :D :D :D

Very nice project PH. You really are going great with the 1:18 stuff!

For those who may not know, the M3 75mm Gun Motor Carriage was originally intended as the first US tank destroyer. After the M10s became available the M3 was withdrawn from TD use. The British used some to support armored car squadrons and a couple turned up with a US Ranger battalion in Italy. In the Pacific there were a few used in the fall of the Phillipines in 1941-42. The Marines loved them for support and they called them "SPMs" (Self Propelled Mounts). The USMC used them from Guadalcanal through Iwo Jima. So there are a lot of painting and marking variations for this halftrack.

That looks simply fantastic! Very, very tempting and I do happen to have a spare halftrack... Just might have to be a latecomer on this

I received my M-3 today and it just knocks my socks off. Mine is the one in Pickel's pics, a complete, painted model on my halftrack. Super work. As far as I'm concerned, his best yet.

Now I hafta go find my socks.

Hey everyone.

I have a question? Did anyone use an FOV M-16 to build this custom. It looks fantastic on the 21st century version, but I only have the FOV. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks
Eric

Hey Eric,

I do not have a FOV M-16. But if you can strip the gun out of it , this mod should work.

Just like the smaller scale 1/35 resin kits.
It should fit the models out there.

You just need to tweek it to fit.
