I don't know if it's been brought up before, but there's an excellent opportunity for Admiral Toys or any of the 18 scale manufacturures to team up with the History Channel. Tie in through Dogfights and Battle 360.

I really like these, well worth waiting for. This announcement has me excited for 1/18 again.

In the meantime. Some vintage footage.

I hope Jason's lack of a reply to this 1/18 WWI model thread wasn't caused by a small number of people who critized Admiral awhile back.

Admiral's 1/18 WW I planes will fill a big void---and I welcome Jason's enlightening updates. Considering the alernatives---21st Century may be dead, BBi releasing little, if any models and the other WWI models (Corgi, Carousel) are too small and with frumpy detailing (Corgi), I hope Admiral does release the !/18 WWI planes---and for Jason to post about it on SSHQ.

Interesting Find...

Post by parrish333 » Wed Feb 18, 2009 1:38 pm

Completely stumbled across this last night (orig. found it in their Holiday Catalog):

http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/prod ... 2/136.html

It's a pretty slick looking Sopwith Camel with real silk wings and wooden frame! The scale works out to ~1/22.

Just thought that for those interested in Admiral's Camel, but realizing that it will easily be many months or even years before it is fully realized, might want to take a stab at this one. I bet at some point they'd come down in price, too.

I think Admiral is not moving away from world war II. But, it really is an over saturated market right now. There needs to be a shot in the arm for the whole hobby at this point. I think they are taking a "start from the beginning" approach. They will come back around to world war ii, and get into more modern aircraft as well.

While I understand and fully support Admiral making WWI Aircraft I have to disagree with your statement that WWII is an over saturated market. If you're talking about P-51's and Corsairs then yes, it's over saturated. If you look at the current offerings as a whole there isn't much of a choice for WWII aircraft. We only have one type of Japanese aircraft, no Russian designed aircraft, no Italian designed aircraft, One British type at reasonable prices anyways, technically 4 German but two are ME-262's, etc, etc. Until I can purchase a KI-61, KI-100, KI-84, KI-43, KI-44, A6M-5 through 7, J2M, KI-27, KI-45, N1K2, Hawker Hurricane (for a reasonable price), Hawker Typhoon and Tempest MK V and II, P-39, P-63, P-61, FW-190 A (for a reasonable price), Macchi of any kind, Mig of any kind, LA-5 or 7, Yak of any kind, IL-2 Sturmovik, the list could go one for a while, I wouldn't consider the WWII market saturated. My point is for true WWII aircraft enthusiasts we have a very limited choice and there is plenty of room for more WWII aircraft. While I love WWI aircraft as well, I hope Admiral still produces WWII aircraft along with BBI and I really hope 21st pulls through. After seeing pics of Admirals Dauntless and Skyraider I am very curious to see how nice the WWI planes will be.

Well, maybe i should clarify. It is over saturated with manufacturers making the same stuff on varying levels of standards. BBI and 21st are both much larger than admiral and competing with them in markets that they specialize in is corporate suicide.
They are taking a risk, but also looking to define themselves. They will begin moving in that direction once they establish what is going on with all the others and establish a greater name for themselves.
World War II as an era to create toys is a massive arena. You could go a lifetime producing world war ii odds and ends in 1:18 scale and you could die having never seen all of it.

Well then annoucement has got me well enthused, I've been busy creating DR.I profiles here's one of them (lo-res), this is 158/17 (Werk Nr 2256) the mount of Hans Kirschstein which was later flown by Ernst Udet.

Now I understand where you were going and I agree with you 100%. Now back to the subject at hand, I hope Admiral makes a Nieuport 28 and a Fokker DVII.

Well I'll buy a few, but not every paint scheme.

Maybe they'll get so good with the Biplanes that we might get a WWII Royal Navy Fairey Swordfish from Sink the Bismark fame.
Or a US. Navy F3F.

I can dream can't I?

That would be cool. 8)

THREETOUGHTRUCKS:

William Barker's Sopwith Camel would be ideal for Admiral---a great paint scheme and great history---Barker was one of the top aces of WW I. If Admiral released a Barker Camel, it would be #1 on my "Must Buy" list.
Barker's Camel was dark green with a silver cowling and a red heart with an arrow through it which was located on the tail---a beautiful paint scheme.

Jason's usually found here:

Of course it's hit and miss since he's a member there and has a business to run.

Ooops ...My bad. I like the bullet shaped Pfalz. I have an old R/C magazine somewere and they did a version that was painted (doped) silver and yellowish gold. That is one sharp airplane.
