Thought I'd put this update here too....
Didn't get to finish up my M60s and shields, but I did take some pictures of the turret armor with a figure in place.
As I stated before in my previous post, you'll need to leave the 50 Cal and shield removable to insert and remove a figure in the turret.
I put the figure in a kneeling type position as seen in the picture below. This allowed the turret to swivel 360 degrees without the figure's legs/feet interfering with anything inside the M113. There is still room to have the figure sit a bit lower if needed.

Once the figure is in place, simply put the 50 Cal and shield back in place:

I'll post more pictures once I finish the M60s and their shields.
Hope you enjoy.

There has been a lot going on latley. Monkey D sales , people blowing there horns about 21st demise and the clearing out of warehouses and what not. Bird Dog has a great idea about going with Mr. Pierce's idea of the M-113 upgrade.
Would anybody else like to have these side storage/ anti rocket side rails ? If so let me know. They do look cool on a Desert Storm APC and my turret and shield will work with them.
They used my style .50 cal shield and the one in the pics. So both will work.
Let me know it there is interest.

OK same response as the pop in windows for the Pavehawk. 3 guys want the storage racks for the M-113 . When I get at least 5 guys interested I usually do the project. If less, it is a LOT of work for a little pay off. Anbody else ? If not , moving on.Aviatornut.com wrote:Matthew

Re: M-113 APC upgrade, last call for storage rack custom
Wow , talk about a blast from the past !!
I was geared up to do the rails but there was not a lot of interest.
I also upped the anti from 5 to 10 guys who would want a certain project.
By going with 5 guys the project never pays for itself.
it is kind of a drag to put in time and money only to break even and not make a dime.
That is why I went up to 10 conformations.

Speaking of the M-113, PH, do you still have the toolings for that MG turret shield for the M-113? I really need to customize my Vietnam version into something more appropriate than a late model M113-A3 painted green...

Re: M-113 APC upgrade, last call for storage rack custom
I would go for an amour upgrade and two sets of storage racks.

Re: M-113 APC upgrade, last call for storage rack custom
You know guys I have been looking at this mod real hard.
I have a different perspective than I had 3 years ago.
3 years ago I was thinking of making the whole rack in one piece . .
But I was not sure how it would turn out.
Those rails would have been crazy flimsy.
Well what if i just make the bottom floor and cast the vertical post ?
The rails could be made out of strip styrene or brass !
That way the rails will be strong enough.
That would make this a crazy simple mod.
Est price $25-$30 .
How does that sound ?
There will be about $6-$8 dollars worth of store bought styrene or brass in it.
Opinions ?
Does anybody have any detail pics of the rack ?

Re: M-113 APC upgarde, 3 Years Later Storage Rack Interest
I'm down for a full set of rails along with the armour upgrades.
I like the new way, may hold up better than the previous design. Either way I'm in.

This armour system is used on the M113 APC, M1126 Stryker.

Thanks R S !!
It seems that the above storage racks are not accurate. There should be only 4 horizontal bars not 7 or so shown.
That would indeed make this rack easier to do . Does anybody know what the floor of the rack is constructed of ? Maybe the stretched screen material ?
This would be the rack that I would make.
Any feedback on that ?

Re: M-113 APC upgrade, 3 Years Later Storage Rack Interest
Pickelhaube, I just joined the forum because I saw this thread. I am in the process of dumping 1/6 and getting into 1/18. I've been looking for M-113 conversion items and tips.
Do you still have the Vietnam era M-113 ACAV commander's cupola and gunshield available? How much are they? I'd really prefer not to try and make my own. Thanks!
