Like most businesses I would assume BCA is just trying to keep their doors open. If one of your planes on ebay brought such high bids would you refuse the sale and direct them to a cheaper source? Buyer beware in my opinion.
Still, the Sky Captain P-40 is pretty darn hilarious at that price.

They can certainly price their items for however much they want.
But they may sell an item or two at those prices, but if those people see that that what they bought wasn't super-rare, or long out of production as they claimed, then Badcat could lose potential repeat customers.
But to those that shrugs about Badcat doing a marketing ploy like this, the next time we see a Pearl Harbor P-40 that's advertised as "rare" and has a high opening price on Ebay, let's try not to ridicule the seller, yes?
(And no, I'm not selling mine)

Isn't half of whats up on ebay "ULTRA RARE ONE OF A KIND OOP"? I would like to reserve the right to continue ridiculing the guy who made that kick-@ss 1/18 jagdpanther though. The one with the tiny canon that was up for $500.GooglyDoogly wrote:They can certainly price their items for however much they want.

Don't feel bad Oli, I still have it here from Netflix. We watched it, and liked it! We'll probably watch it again before returning it. And I have the 1:32 version of the plane, and I like it.olifant wrote:I am embarrassed to say I rented the DVD...Jesse James wrote: Haha! Now that was funny.

1:18 Scale Has a Unique Demographic:
50%--Collectors below the poverty level. They collect the biggest toys possible but really shouldn't. They shop price above all else because they have no other choice. Discount stores like Wal Mart help stretch the budget.
40%--Middle Income or Retired. Discretionary income available for a few luxuries. Most spent (spend) their lives working hard and they're not going to give it away. They like a cheap price, but more importantly, prefer a good value, i.e. an expensive $120 plane would only be purchased if it was really, really good.
10%--Wealthy Professionals. Despite the fact that this is very much a blue-collar scale, there is a thin atmosphere of high income collectors for 1:18. A few doctors, lawyers, corporate officers, and even Hollywood types like XD. For these folks, finding a mint piece of rare, hard to find merchandise, made convenient to purchase from a highly reliable source is extremely important. Whether buying $400 door nobs for their yacht, a $700 high performance tire for their car, or an XD piece last manufactured three years ago, they know what they want and have the means to purchase it. Price is of little or no consideration, and they seldom devote any of their time posting to public message boards. If they did it would read, "Despite the fact my weekly paycheck is $193,000, I have no time. I'm so glad BCAT found an S2 Michaelski Focke Wulf to sell me because I've been unable acquire one. For only $150 bucks I own a real beauty and I didn't have to run around looking in filthy discount stores or wasting my time with flakes on eBay. Checkout was easy and the carefully packed aircraft arrived at my door in just three days. Perfect for the aviation section of my estate."
Bad Cat's Private Reserve discretely serves a niche within a niche. If you find the items in this section "unacceptably priced", a "gouge", "rip-off", "way too expensive", "outlandish", "crazy", "too much"--you are probably correct. This section of our site caters to a very narrow segment of the market. I absolutely hate paying $100 for an plane that cost me $30 a couple of years ago . . . but if it will sell for $150 . . . well, maybe its not too much afterall.

I guess if I could make more money out of a deal then I would be happy - and if someone was more than willing to pay the price then even better. The FW190's, ME109e's and P-47 razorbacks are getting a little thin..........but the skycaptain P-40.......an exclusive.......really?!? PS no offense matt.....i'm just saying.

So, sales demographics-zip code or otherwise- show 50% of us to be below the poverty level? can I use food stamps for XD? that would free up more cash for the lottery, ya know. I would think that about ZERO percent of your collectors are below the official povery level, teens living with their mommy and daddy should be excluded. In my humble OPINION, 90% of your customers are probably what I would consider middle class, single or hen pecked, young or old- and 10% could probably afford to get every one of Skyworks offerings pictured currently, but would not, not wanting to embarrass the rest of us. Oh that's ROEDAAAAYO drive to us down south there...
Guys,
Stop the flaming here or I will lock this one as well. Please show some respect for everybody's opinions. We are all part of the same collecting family, so let's act like it, myself included.

When it comes down to it, Badcat or any other retailer can charge what they want regardless of our opinion, I don't necesarily have a problem with that becasue if you got the bucks and can spend it, then go for it.
Just don't expect to recoup what you have invested in it.
My point on the other thread was that people will pay what they can to obtain what they want, hence the $250 Zero on one auction and the other selling for $50. It is all what someone is willing to pay. If Badcat can sell Zeros all day for $250, then more power to them, but I think that is not the norm, but the exception.

Greetings:
Since I was called a liar in the last thread I just want to clear this up. I did a little research, in my paypal account, which does not lie.
On June 9, 2008, I bought a white Pearl Harbor Zero on ebay and paid with my paypal account. The payment was sent to Bad Cat Toys Inc, it is also in my paypal account as well. I paid a little over $200 for it plus the shipping price to my grandfather's place since I was on vacation when it would arrive. That was only 6 months ago, a little over that. I cannot share the details of course because they include my credit card information. But the transaction happened, no matter if Matt wants to admit it did or not.
I had no problem paying that price for the Zero because I wanted it, and it is a beautiful piece and I love it. Badcat provided great service and even included a free pen in the box when it arrived. I have no problem with any part of the transaction nor do I with Badcat's service.
I do have a problem with someone telling me I do not know what I bought. I know where every piece in my collection came from, how much I spent for it and when I purchased it, I keep careful records and like to know what I spend on my aircraft and my purchases. It really irritates me that someone would actually think I DIDN'T know what I PURCHASED!
I probably fall into the poverty category. I am paying back student loans and am a young teacher that keeps a pretty tight budget. The Zero was a big purchase for me and I saved and budgeted for it. It was one of my few big purchases of this year. I was actually happy Badcat offered it to me because one had gone higher a day before that one ended.
I don't care what Badcat does and they are a good retailer. I'm not happy that they called me an outright liar when they know they sold me that Zero earlier in the year. That is disappointing for a retailer that supposedly values its customers. Since I was called out, I felt the truth should be told.

You purchased a zero from us six months ago . . . got it.
You paid $200 for an ebay auction . . . very good.
You like the airplane . . . check.
Thank you. Why would I dispute any of these things?
-----
I stated we have no Hirano Zeros in inventory currently at any price. We used to, six months ago, but not any more--Facts you publicly disputed.
You went on to state my blog was detrimental to your hobby and that you didn't like it--That's fine, you are welcome to your opinion, don't read it. Its not assigned as required reading. Better yet, rather than simply complaining, how about offering an article of your own and make a positive contribution? You're a well-educated man, Corey. I bet our blog readers would enjoy reading what you have to say about various pieces.
My blog article was written for entertainment purposes. It discussed the various exclusives we offered during the past few years. The missive also had some inside production tidbits not widely known to collectors. I offered evidence that these pieces may have appreciated in value since released.
You, Eric, Alvaro and others insinuated that the piece had alterior motives. A big, dark, conspiracy theory designed to manipulate the used market for big, plastic toy airplanes. Come-on people, increase your fiber intake and loosen-up. They're just toys, not heart medicine. Let's have some fun . . .
Where do you get your data for this summation ?? I have purchased many items from BC and there is absolutely no legal way you could know anything about my status. I order, you ship, end of transaction. Never any other interaction between our parties. With no interaction or survey, how can you know anything about what my status is or any other similar customers ?? I find your claims troubling without facts to support them.BadCatMatt wrote:1:18 Scale Has a Unique Demographic:
