If you are looking for a Tiger Stripe Mig, there were three at the WM in Lewisville on 35 & Main st. I am waiting for the WM on the Dallas tollway to re-supply with the new 1/32 Stuka and Corsairs. They were there right before X-mas now they are gone.Folkwulfe wrote:FINALLY!!! Found six "Mitch's Squitch" Sabres at the WM/SS in the DFW area of Texas. This one is the WM adjacent to Ranger Stadium (Ameriquest Field) in Arlington at Collins and Ballpark Way! They are NOT marked down....yet. No tiger stripped MiGs yet, but still looking. Nothing new in 1/32nd scale yet.

And this comes as a surprise because????STUKA wrote:three different stores on the southside put the chinese Migs in Clearance aisles but they have the full price - the Mitch's Squitch and Korean Migs are sitting in the toy aisle with 21st century stuff.

I've seen that done a few times--as if people not-so-in-the-know think they are getting a special price--"Look mom, it's on sale for $40!!!" Just like I see some retailers put up signs saying "special!", and the price is the same as always. I also remember when I worked in electronics and certain TV makers would dictate sales pricing for their big-screens, for example, $200 off MSRP. Which often meant we would have had to RAISE our price $100 to meet the sales price that the manufacturer was advertising.

I spoke to a wm toy department manager about finding stuff at full price in the clearance section and she explained ( at least according to her store) that when they re-set their shelves it sometimes leaves them without a home-spot for some items ( Migs and Sabres for example if there is now no designated spot for large aircraft). So they move the "homeless" product to a holding area which also is where the clearance stuff resides. Usually the stuff placed here will eventually be marked down. But not always. Sometimes they receive changes to their shelf diagram and the product is pulled back onto the main shelves. Even when it is eventually marked down, it can take a long, long time, often based upon the discretion of the individual store.

XD planes to $15 - Wow! I think that is how one store may have gotten rid of its 6 F-86s and 3 Migs in a very short time after the holidays.
On another note, I found 4 NK Mig-15s discounted to $30 at the Madera, Ca Wal Mart. Even at that price, its still not bad considering the same plane sells at most small retailers for around $60.
Sad to see such great new pieces already on discount (I would have at least thought WM would have let the Migs sit around for a couple years like they did with the Bf-109Gs) however, perhaps this is a sign of new items to come, or the end of XD and Wal Mart...

funny thing is they sit just as long as XD - I wouldnt call it phasing out - just understanding what is comming in the next few months...
WM changed their XD display at least 4 times a year. Or they have none at all eg planes all over the top shelf etc.

I wonder sometimes how much of it is tied to planned releases of new product from 21st. Walmart HQ certainly knows several months or even a year or two in advance what 21st has in the works, and how much shelf space they need to reserve for new items. Why reserve space that will essentially be unused for a few months?
And I have noticed that 21st's reissue of product is sporadic at best, as we saw with the sudden reapparance of the M48, Mutts, and some other items, at the same time that the new halftracks and PAK-40 were showing up. Most of this stuff ended up on the top shelf, or in other departments, until space cleared out where it belonged.
So while I do see a trend towards smaller scales, at least at mass market retailers, I don't think XD is dying out--we may just have a few months to wait before we see anything new show up in Walmart. Or be prepared to look in housewares, sporting goods, etc...
