Here's a funny drawing of what could happen to even the fastest of jets when they get down "in the grass" with an A-10!!!!!

I have too....

Here's a link to an article on the 47th FS (Turnip Termites) and its origins. It would be cool to get a 1/18 A-10 with the 47th's scheme:

Cool read. It's hard to decided which nose paint scheme looks better, the "shark mouth" or the "tusked" hog face??..... :? If they ever do an A-10 in 1/18, maybe they can give us a roll your own through Bad Cat... :D

There is a cool article with lots of cool pictures on the A-10 in a "Special Issue" of Flight Journal magazine on Moder Air Power this month. Lot of cool pictures and articles on the F-18, B-52, and others. Worth picking up a copy... :D

Did anyone know that the A-10 had an appearance in a music video? I don't know how many people here (if any) listen to country music, but the A-10 appeared in John Michael Montgomery's music video for "Be My Baby Tonight" back in '94. Here's a link for anyone who wants to view it:

Can someone post the dimensions for the 1/18 A-10 again. Here is my prediction for next year.

1. BBI will make an A-10 for next year 70% chance of that.

2. In the Spring we will see the first glimpses of of the 21st century F-86 and Mig-15. The Admiral toys f-86 will be released then.

3. A new Vietnam era jet will be announced by 21st Century.

4. BBI will start planning or offering 2 new fighters, a Hellcat but I think another Axis plane as well. I'm betting on a FW-190 Anton.

5. The "We starve so you don't have to" A-10 thread will finally disapear only to be replaced by the "We starve so you don't have to " Skyraider thread.

I really really really hope you're right on Number 1........just wish these companies would say,"hey, we're not going to do it, so you can with no worries." Then no one would have to play this "wait and see" game afraid that someone is going to beat them to the punch if they tip their hat. All that does is make it harder for our hobby to get the aircraft we really want produced.

I believe, if my calculations are correct, that a 1/18 scale A-10 should have these deminsions:

Wingspan: Around 38.33"

Length: Around 35.55"

Height: Around 9.78"

Wing Chord at Root: Around 6.6"

Wing Chord at Mean: Around 5.94"

Wing Chord at Tip: Around 4.35"

Tailplane Span: Around 12.55"

are we going to get these?

1) A-10 --- maybe
2) F-14 -- quite possibly
3) F-15-- Hell naw!
4) F117A -- your dreamin

but i am a realist :D

I was just flipping through the channels a little bit ago when I ran across MSNBC where they were doing a special on wrestlers entertaining the troops overseas. I had to stop and watch it for a few moments because there was an A-10 parked by the ring where the wrestling was taking place. Once again it made me want one even more in 1/18 scale.

Bring on the A-10!!!!

I have a spot on my wall empty just waiting for an A-10 to fill it. I'm going to be needing a bigger place next.

Here's a link to footage from an A-10 during combat practice. Proof that even a fast mover like an F-16 can be a victim to an A-10.

This link shows a kill by the A-10's sidewinders:

This link shows a kill with gun:

Here's a link to the story of "Chopper Popper", the A-10 flown by Capt. Bob Swain. Capt. Swain downed an Iraqi helicpoter with this A-10 during Operation Desert Storm.

http://www.warthogpen.com/walloffame.html

It would be cool to have Capt. Swain's A-10 done in 1/18 scale. Maybe a Bo-105 to go with it?....

Hog Fact or Fiction?:

It's been said that some A-10 pilot's have been instructed to use their IR Mavericks for air-to-air combat in the event that the AIM9s failed to lock onto the target. That would give them three sources of air-to-air ordinance: Gun, Sidewinders, and Mavericks... :D

Wonder how successful a Maverick would be in an air-to-air engagement?

I could see that working against helicopters which are often low and slow moving. But I doubt it would work for anything else.

Hog Fiction: Alexander the Great (356-323 B.C.) conquers most of the civilized world with the help of the A-10. His conquest failed when he realized it was the 3rd Century BC and A-10's had not been invented yet.

Check out this line up of the Air Foce's Modern Fighter Aircraft. Hope one day we'll get to have a line up like this in 1/18 scale. We already have one of the aircraft. Hope the next one we get will be the A-10.
