Things are moving right along.

I have the flaps and ailerons almost done.

I shot a coat of primer on the wings and the panel lines all came out great !! :D

I am currently working on the cockpit area and have come across a little glitch.

IT WILL BE REAL HARD TO FIT THE PILOT FIGURE IN WITH THE INSTRAMENT PANEL IN PLACE.

The fix is to put the pilot in first then fit in the panel.

It is a tight fit so falling out of place will not be an issue.

I need to fill in the cockpit walls and do some touching up and the cockpit will be done.

I am not going to do the throttle controls . They are located on the port side in between the cockpit tub tubes. With the figure in , there is no way to see them any way.

As I recall I think that the only thing to finish is the main wheel bay and the main section end caps.

I do have to go over everything to tweak and finesse everything. That will take a day or so.

Dare I say that I am getting close to finishing.

Pics may not happen today but I think that I will be able to post pics on Friday.

Nice, I don't think I would add a pilot in mine. The 21st stuff just is not good enough for the sexy work you make! LOL Now, the ONLY pilot worthy of sitting in your 229 ins something from Waylen. ;)

I was going to send you a pilot for mine, but I think I agree with flyboy, the pilots aren't good enough for this beauty!

pickel,

On your panel line shots from 09/05, I didn't see scribe lines for the upper/lower wing tip spoilers. Was wondering: did you add those?

This is looking totally awesome!

The wing spoilers will be applique like the dive breaks on the bottom toward the tail feather.

I also need to put on about 20+ access covers .

Too bad you only do 1/18 as I would be all over a 1/32 version.

I actually used to show the Nat'l Geo special to my 7th grade Physical Science class near year's end when talking about EMF.

We all know that Weylan does a fantastic job.

But is figs are static. There is NO WAY of fitting a static figure in the cockpit.

The fig will have to fully articulate.

Here's something I came up with so far.

Image
Image

Looking at Pickel's newest pics the rear support may interfere with the wheel doors.

The other option could be to use the swastika as the base and take the supports up. That would also reduce the amount of acrylic used there by reducing the cost as well. Placement of the supports would be the trick. I would use a thicker acrylic for the base to offset the lack material in the swastika. Thicker material would allow me to also light the stand.

That's just a thought I had. What would everyone else like to see?

I think that I rather have the swastie as the base rather than the support.

Just my opinion.

I have the wings ALMOST done. I use the same thickness clear plastic to make all of the access wing panel round caps. They were the same thickness as I used on the wing main section.

THEY LOOKED LIKE I GLUED ASPERIN TABLETS ON THE WINGS

I should have just cut them off and went back with thinner ones but it took so long to make them all 28 of them. So I sanded them down.It took 3 times to get them as thin as I needed.

Only about 1 1/2 days worth or time

One wing is done the other I need to drill the tiny screw heads on the caps.

I also have the flaps and ailerons done. :wink:Image

Wow! Amazing work! Can't wait to see it finished. I can't believe how fast you've been able to build this, I've spent years on my P-39 and it still doesn't look this good. You have one amazing talent Pickle.

If there is any demand for structures in 1/32 I'd like to take a stab at that.

Have to recover from dislocating my middle finger of my right hand first, though.

For those who remember the shots of my armor collection I have my tanks arranged along a shelf. I've wanted to create backdrops, sort of like a semi-3D wallpaper, to pace on the wall behind the vehicles to simulate buildings and roadways rather than the plain painted drywall I have now.
