Some guy at Hisstank emailed BBI about the F-16 and F-18. They replied with contact info for a little shop in Florida with no website or ebay store. This guy had almost 100 hornets and several vipers. I just got a new hornet for $125 shipped. Hisstank picked him clean,, but he has a ton of wwii birds like the p-38 for $65. What a great end to the md orgy.

Based on the above I gave Jerry a call earlier today. He said he was more of a distributor than a retail outlet.

He seemed like a nice guy but really didn't appear to have a grip on what's been released and what hasn't. When we were talking about the BBI F-18 he made the comment that he'd like to see a Blue Angels repaint. Upon telling him that one was made he informed me that what I saw was a repaint from some guy in Florida. I wasn't arguing with him.

I purchased a P-38 for $65, which I think (hope) will be the California Cutie version. Jerry also told me that the P-38 was made by BBI.

Oh well, I'll keep my fingers crossed that I get a P-38 in the mail.

Yeah he told me the Bbi Corsair and 21st Corsair were the exact same model just packaged differently. :? He also mentioned something about he's waiting on more Spitfires in 1/18.... :? :? I think that'll be a long wait. He is a nice guy though and has some pretty darn good prices on stuff. He also said he just sold the last F-18.

I just got my MD shipment. I ordered a M16, Tri-colored Pak-40 and M7 Quad trailer. Funny think is it was shipped in the box that 21st C receives a 4 pack of Pak-40's from China. So, I now understand MD's discount rate on Pak-40's (buy 4 get discount), M48 Pattons (buy 2 get discount), Panthers (buy 2 get discount) and a few others. Each type is just shipped out to the cutomer without having to unpack it.
Knowing this, I think they could cut us a break on shipping, unless that is how they are making a profit?
Interesting... :?

Were the "White Zeros" the original Pearl Harbor white scheme that's been gone for so long? I'm assuming it's not the new Saburo Sakai Zero that hasn't hit shores yet?

Only thing I can figure is 21st needed some fast cash and cut a deal with MD to clean out their warehouse. Still though you'd think MD would've sold the stuff higher unless maybe they were acting on behalf of 21st? Hard to say.

$30.00 for Little Birds
$40.00 for Kiowas
$65.00 for Pave Hawks

Shipping to me is in the $15.00 range.

Honasty at Hisstank did not post this discovery until he had his F-18 and F-16 in hand, so I know that part is correct. Jerry does not seem to be intouch with the web, which makes you wonder how many other offline stashes exist out there. He was getting orders so fast, he kept saying he was sold out until he could get them shipped and recount. I also am crossing my fingers, but feel my monday birthday luck will provide me with the hornet.

Yeah I think it's cool he has a store stocked like that, makes you wonder what else he may have as far as other diecast etc. Jerry seems a pretty personable guy, I'll definitely save his number.

I know Jerry ordered 100 F-18's and 100 F-16's, sitting on them all year. You know he was glad to move all of that inventory so rapidly. If he was Internet savy, he could have made a fortune on Ebay, listing them 2 or 3 at a time. It is nice so many 1/18th newcomers were able to snatch a modern bird at a fair price. I know I look at those $250-$300 prices and shake my head. No way in hell. How do you even explain that one to the wife? I only spend that much on RC tanks and that is in $100 chunks, much easier to digest and for the wife to tolerate. Her question is always: "What does it do?" A tank drives around and keeps my hands busy working on it, a $300 plastic jet just sits there and occupies an enormous amount of real estate. Thank god she likes them hanging.

From brock Samson of Hisstank:

So, to add to this great thread, I'll tell my story and fill you in a little more about Jerry. I contacted Honasty early Thursday morning after reading his thread. I was in Tampa, FL for work at the time and mapped the location. I was surprised to find he was an hour drive away! I was giving presentations that day and didn't think I could make it so I called Jerry and put in an order for the jets. A few minutes later, I spoke with the meeting organizer and found I had three hours in between presentations. What luck, one hour away and three hours to pick them up and get them shipped back home! I called Jerry and told him I would pick them up instead as I could ship them myself cheaper with my FedEx account.

Took me just under an hour and $1.50 in tolls to get there. I was expecting a hobby shop at an airport but that's not what I found! Click on the link for an aerial shot Google Maps. Jerry runs an aircraft painting and maintenance company. On the side he buys and sells models at train and aircraft shows. He's not as "old" as I had envisioned, just over 50 and strong as a horse.

When I arrived, there was a guy working on a helicopter. I asked him where to go and he said round the side. This is the larger hanger in the map image. There was a nice covered area with patio chairs. I knocked on the door and Jerry greeted me. He's as nice in person as he is on the phone. He had a black poodle, white poodle and a gray cat. The poodles greeted me, they were really sweet dogs while the cat barely took notice. Right on his table he had the Falcon on display and had a few other models around his office. He took me into the hanger where he had a few bbi cases out. He had my jets out and I told him I needed them in their factory cases so I could ship them. He said no problem and went to another separate building/hanger. As I followed him, I saw a retired military jet inside! While I moved my car around, he came out of the hanger driving a fork lift stacked with bbi cases!

I asked about the jet (forgot what it was, had intakes that looked like an intruder) but he said it was just too expensive to fly right now. He said at one time he had 100 of the bbi jets, not sure which he was referring to. He knew what they were worth on eBay, but didn't have the time to deal with managing it and preferred the hobby shows. We chatted about bbi and he must be in good contact with them as he knew quite a bit about rumored upcoming jets as well as one of bbi's plants in china shutting down. He's a hobbyist at heart and was happy to send the jets to people who would appreciate them. He had mentioned he'd been getting quite a few calls. I smiled and told him he would sell everything he had once word of mouth spread.

He ran my card (after I politely asked for a discount for buying in quantity) and asked what else he had. He gave me a copy of his full price list, I need to find the earlier post with the inventory list and I'll add the pricing to it. He offered to help me load the boxes into my ridiculously small rental car but I declined. I left directly for kinkos, dropped the boxes off for shipping and made it back with almost 30 minutes to spare. I think I was high from the excitement of everything working out. Being in the right place, the right time and having the time to make it happen was just absolute fate. These are going to go great with my black hawk and apache. If only I had a 1:18th scale aircraft carrier, but 1:18 of a 1/4 mile would still be 62 feet!

Hope you enjoyed reading the chronicle, it was fun living it! Wish I'd taken a picture of Jerry but I was in too much of a hurry to think about it.

TBM Avenger $65
